I did search for this but wasn't able to find anything conclusive.

I would like to put an Optima Yellow Top battery in my 2016 TRD OR AC, but Optima's site and other vendors (presumably because the truck is still pretty new) don't show a model number that's compatible with this truck.

There's probably not a lot of complexity in choosing which battery will fit but I'd like some guidance on this front if y'all are so inclined.

    Thanks in advance!

Just curious, why replace the battery since the truck is basically new?

I doubt that Toyota is putting "crappy" ones in their vehicles. Do what you want. It just seems unless the OEM battery is not currently working correctly, its just money down the drain (imo). Of course you just threw out the 3/36 warranty on the battery if you do replace it.

You don't want a crappy battery so you're putting an Optima in it ?

Isn't that like dividing by zero ?

Aren't all Optima batteries the same, minus the color of the top? I don't remember them having different sizes and shapes that would make the, model specific.

I just looked at my OEM and it was around 4-500 CCA's. That's fine for stock, but when you tack on lights, audio, etc it's going to put a premature strain on it. A quality 1000+CCA battery is added insurance.

I've gotten crappy 2-1/2 year warranty batteries to last at least five years by simply trickle charging them and checking the level over night about once a month.
Of the batteries on vehicles I didn't check, they usually lasted 2-4 years.
I bought a mower in '04 and it's only had 2 batteries in it. The first one lasted over 8 years, the second one is still going strong and I bought it @ autozone!
I'll let you do the math.
    Cheers!

The "crappy" Motorcraft battery in my old ford Ranger lasted 8 years. That includes some harsh winters in Minnesota and then 5 summers in AZ

I used to have Optimas red top in my Porsches... That is, until their quality went down the drain. No sense in spending the $ now for what you get.

I suggest you look at other brands.

Interstate Battery goes in mine when the Toyota battery dies. Probably won't run the Toyota battery over 5 years before replacing it.

My crappy Toyota OEM battery lasted 7 years in my 2nd gen before I replaced it with a Northstar AGM 27F

I'd be interested in researching a Deka AGM battery for my 2016 eventually, but the problem there is the reduced reserve capacity for when the motor is off.

(For those not in the know, Deka is the actual maker for Braille battery, who takes a Deka battery, slaps a "Braille" logo sticker on it, and sells it for double the price as a "hella sweet racing battery":jerkoff: Also braille rates their batteries in "PCA" which is an utterly useless measurement)

It's great if you have a small sports car or sedan or something, you get to shave 30+ pounds off the car, and you get almost the same CCA out of the battery. Problem is the reserve capacity goes way down- so on a truck with lots of fun goodies (light bars and such) you really run a bigger risk than dropping such a small AGM battery into your weekend Miata or M3. Any passive drain is gonna bite you in the ass.

The "big" deka 21-pounder is a 20-ish pound drop from the Taco's stock battery, which would certainly be appreciated in the mileage department (every little bit helps!) and it's even been tested at roughly 550 CCA, but again, reserve capacity.

@rewted I plan to replace my OEM battery with a Optima Red Top, Group 34R. Should be a drop in replacement. I'm powering a fridge and several other accessories so the added peace of mind of a deep cycle battery appeals to me. The OEM battery has been fine so far but when parked for a few days camping I feel like I need to start the truck a few times to ensure the OEM battery isn't drained.

Optima used to be top notch, they got sold a few years ago, now they are made in China, they aren't bad but there are AGM batteries that are better.
