Adding a little bass

Has anybody ran one of these? I just want a well rounded system, and to have a little more low end where the stock system is lacking in my 2014 non jbl. Do you think this sub is a good value for the price, or not worth it?

I have a small amp and a 10" behind my rear seat and it sounds great. Nothing special but it is clear and has some nice base. I am 42 years old and all I want it to hear the music the way it should be heard.

If you turn off the base to the stock speakers, you would be amazed at how loud and clear they are, it's the base that distorts it all. My base is controlled from my amp, my door speakers have none.

I think what you are looking at would be suffice, but make sure whatever you do it amplified.

I've been looking at removing my JBL deal and putting this in. I plan on relocating my batteries to the JBL sub area.

 

That's pretty neat but the low price scares me a little bit. I'm only one step up from retarded when it comes to sound systems but with my limited experience, I've learned you get what you pay for. That being said, the low price also makes it worth a try. Set your expectations low and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

 

If you guys can hang on a little while longer i have way more powerful self powered units coming shortly. Believe it or not, ill be getting 2 in. One a 200wrms application and the other a 400wrms application w a response down to 18hz

 

I have no direct experience with the Kenwood unit listed, but I normally hold the the same "get what you pay for" belief BDL5589 mentions above. That said, I was very happy with the similar Sound Ordnance B-8PTD I ran in my '04. For me, it did exactly what you're looking for - rounded my (aftermarket) system out with a little more low-end that what it originally provided. Bottom line: I thought the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD was a great value. Assuming the Kenwood performs similarly, it should meet your needs.

 

x2. I did the same thing in my 03 DCSB, but ran 2 of the S.O. B-8PTD. One under each front seat. Low end response was a impressively improved. Not earth shattering, but rounded out extremely nicely. Excellent value. A few of my Taco friends repeated my setup after listening to it in my truck. I still have the gear to swap into my 2nd gen once I replace the head unit.

 

Yes, I installed one of these in my friend's Double Cab Tacoma last year. Still going good.
I put it behind the driver side rear seat. It fit well back there. It would have fit under the driver's or pass seat but it would take up foot room for passengers so we didn't do it...

It sounds pretty good. It has enough bass to be 'annoying', but it's not going to 'shake the world'.
I do think it was a bit 'boomy' though. A bit too heavy on the upper bass region.
It's still probably the best option if you need to mount it out of the way though.

It won't fit behind the seats though. I just let it roll around in the back of my double cab...
Again, it's not super loud but It's very 'tight' bass. A song with a good bass drum track sounds really good.
I like this one better than the Kenwood. Especially for the price.
I have it wired with connectors so I can easily remove it if I have a lot of passengers.

 

Such different things. Amazing what a single letter can do!

I ended up installing the linked sub... So far I'm very impressed with the unit and the install was easy.

Still happy with this? I replaced my stock speakers but bass is lacking. Was wondering about sliding this under a seat.

Can I/we get a little more info on this? Where will it install? Under a seat?

 

I have been really happy with the bass output of simply replacing the stock speakers with some good pioneer 6x9 3 ways up front and 6.5 round 3 ways in the rear. Far better quality sound than stock, really woke up the stock head unit. But i could see one of these lil subs being a nice addition as well.

 

Did going to aftermarket speakers make the sound any louder? I like to ride around listening to music with my windows down in the summers, but when going down the highway I need to turn the volume up above 40 and anything louder than that the poor factory speakers sound like they're going to burst.

 

Oh big time, It might take maybe 5 more volume to achieve the same loudness. BUT you can crank it all the way (up past ~40 where the stock speakers would get super distorted) and the sound is still clear and not distorted like the stock speakers. Seriously do it if you are even considering it. The stock speakers have a driver that literally the size of 6 quarters stacked. ITS TINY, the pioneers that i put in place while not super high end, were built AMAZING, and are HUGE compared to stock.


FYI i did this, did not do the sound deadening, and made my own tweeter adapters out of a piece of aluminum flatstock (super easy). Also note that factory wiring colors for the tweeters are backwards, black is positive, red is negative, just follow the wires back to the main harness and you will see what i mean.

It will most likely ship with the deadener group buy and i hope to do one of these as a prized draw as well. We will see, it will depend on volume. IF not they will all be sent direct. Which one are you interested in the most ? under the seat or the 400wrms 10

 

Its weird the magnet for the stock tweeters is like twice as big as the magnet for the stock 6x9's.
