I strapped them upright when we went to an off road area with the bikes in the back. That shot was for a few mile trip to the local sports park loop.

Those Treks in the back of the truck are not Walmart bikes...

Personally, I would prefer not stacking a handful of bikes on their sides in my truck bed while I am driving crappy dirt roads to a trail head or down a highway. A guy is taking a big chance on damaging a derailleur doing this imo. A single bike with the derailleur facing up laying in the bed? Sure, do it all the time to drop my kid off at a friends place.

One with derailleur face down and one face up. You can do 2 pretty safely just flip the bike around and place neatly. They hold themselves. Nothing wrong with a bike rack and nothing wrong with putting them in the bed correctly. Just opinion

Kuat NV rack on the hitch for bikes, roof rack for the boards...Bike had been in storage for 7 months while i was traveling for work. Finally got out yesterday and got her dirty!

Not really into putting the bikes in the bed. That's where all the gear goes for road trips, and like the convenience of not having to take the front wheel off and on every time and getting it up on the roof. Plus, the Kuat also has an attachment that came with it that allows it to double as a bike stand, so you can work on your bike at the camp or the trailhead if need be.

Yep, you're closed-minded! That amateur and a great way to damage your bike. Plus you lose all the cargo space of the bed. If you're going to shel out good money for a good bike do it right and get some sort of rack. If you're carrying cheap junk, then just toss them in the bed.

I jump to dirt bike because they also get beat when you ride them, and I own both. If I don't just toss my dirt bike in the back why would I with a bike that is almost as expensive...

I have no idea why anyone would "toss" their bike ... Again, if done with care it's fine. Lol

Interesting design. Is that part of the hitch? Looks like it is designed to coexist.

I used the hitch to mount it. Was the easiest place to attach it to.

Is there enough clearance to open tailgate with bikes on when it tilts?
