What kind of camper do you have?

Just the top yes. 150lbs Max. And yup couch opens but short people only. Lol. I could only fit on it if I were curled up in a ball

 

The Taco should pull that like nothing was even there. I tow a camper that its dry weight is 4250# and loaded is 5100#, The Taco will pull more than most expect it to. Nice camper, and happy camping.

 

Flat ground/low elevation no worries. Was like nothing was behind me (no wdh either). But at 10k feet. Felt like I was pulling the titanic.

HOLY CRAP...the GVW ON THAT BAD BOY IS #7000, More than what the 2nd gen is rated for, UVW is #5120, that's pushing the limits. Although I did consider that camper but thought it is just tooooooo much camper for the Taco to tow. Real nice TT, good luck with it and happy camping.

 

Its easy to handle dry and most of my towing is short trips around the Carolina's with very little cargo to dry towing were I go

 

The Taco will tow it anyway. These trucks in my opinion are under rated. They can handle a lot, especially if it's outfitted properly. I tow a Sportsmen Showstopper 244bh, dry it's 4250, GVWR is 6400, i'm around 5000 - 5200. I do travel all over with it though, and the Tacoma handles it like a champ. I did add the air bags in the rear, good WD, and Tow breaks, but the truck handles it like ease. Good luck and have fun...

 

Thank you for the information I got the truck 2yrs ago and I will be putting air bags on it later on but for now I can have fun going dry & I agree they are underated

 

Of course mileage depends on how and where I am driving. I watch my scanguage II. The absolute best I can do towing for any distance far enough to get an average is around 15, but that is babying it on level state highways in the 50 mph range. The absolute worse I get hauling butt just under 80mph on interstates (not advisable, not something I do regularly) I can get as bad as just under 10mpg. maybe 8 or 9. Typical realistic mpg towing is 12-13

And yes it is a Skyline Koala...debadged...it had a lot of graphics!!!! Gross weight went down after I got all the vinyl palm trees off :-0

 

jeephreak....you only load 300 pounds into your camper?

 

Water. Food. And blankets/bedding and clothes. Can't imagine that's over 300lbs. It's only got a 20gal fresh tank. That's 160lbs right there. Food clothing etc can't weight more than 140 lbs

We just bought a Jayco Jay series M-1006 and I'm wondering if a 45W solar panel will be enough to keep the battery charged when using the interior lights,refrigerator etc should we not be connected to power?

 

I took the time to paint up the ol' girl- used truck bed spray paint from Rustoleum- it came out great! I did one light coat and one medium coat. I then sprayed the tongue with Rust Reformer from Rustoleum. Only managed one coat before it was too close to the campout and I needed to get packed up. Here's a few shots of the site as well.

Just for reference only, used furnace for heat due to mid twenties took generator two hours to recharge the battery at 8 amps. your solar panel under ideal conditions, direct sun might output just under four amps. power/volt = current.

 

Finally got the camper out this weekend, went down to Cape Cod. This was the first pull with the new lift and set up on the truck. The Taco handled it like a champ, as I knew it would. So here is the low down, outside temp was 80*F, from home to campground is 75miles, driving in 4th, Scangage read engine temp between 180 and 210*F and the Trans Temp read between 190 and 235*F. Obviously the higher temp numbers is when I was hopping on it to go up an incline.

Mine done extremely well and from Asheboro,N.C to Myrtle Beach, SC round trip on 1 & half tanks of gas done VERY well at 10,780# combined GVW over all everything rolling down the highway Safely driven at 60mph turning around 2500 - 2700rpm's I'm very pleased with my hookup!! & the performance.
