Hi guys, long time reader, first post. The search function has been my friend, but I can't find specific knowledge on this. Part of if may be my rudimentary understanding of lifts and lingo

I have a 2016 DCLB, went to a local suspension shop and got the Bilstein 5100's put in and Toyo Open Country 285/70/17's put on.

I believe the shop said they did a 3" lift in the front, 1" block in the back and they put spacers in?

Here's my issue: Whenever I have the wheels turned and rolling slow or fast on smooth ground, i have NO PROBLEMS. If I go slow up or down hill or over bumps slow, i have NO PROBLEMS

But if I have the wheels turned, and going either up hill or over a big bump FAST, I feel rubbing. This is especially the case if i'm applying the brake. My orange traction light will go off too, and it almost feels like an ABS issue. (Is this what you guys mean when you say "flexing"?)

Also, this only happened once, I had to hard brake while going in the straight line. The nose of the truck dipped down and it activated this rubbing noise and sensation. It wasn't ABS in this case.

I brought the truck back to the shop, and they think it's only when the suspension is compressed like if I'm going over a bump or into a dip and the wheel comes up in to the body.

    Questions for you:

1.) has anyone else experienced this or know about this?
2.) Is this something I can live with? It only happens around 5% of the time, if that, and if I take extra care to go slower over turns or bumps, I won't have this problem.

What else should I worry about?

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

have you looked in the wheel well yet to see potential point of contact? Could be UCA/Cab Mount/Sway Bar rubbing. Did you get an alignment? What's your caster set at?

The tire is most likely hitting the back of the wheel well on either the fender flare or the cab mount. If it is actually hitting hard enough to activate your abs that would be a concern for me. If it is hitting the fender flare it could possibly rip the flare from your truck. If it is hitting the cab mount you could damage the tire. Again this is all most likely what is happening and it is almost impossible to guess at exactly where its rubbing on your truck without pictures. Turn the wheel and snap a couple pictures at where you believe it is the closest to rubbing and post them. That should help us help you.

Ok, i'm wrong, it's not the ABS light. It's the orange symbol with the truck and no traction. That light comes on. Below are two pictures of the left front tire. one turned all the way to the left, and then right. The shop thinks it the rear part. There's no damage to the tire.

285's? Figure out where you are rubbing and get cutting.

Yeah probably the rear part. Examine the fenderwell and fender flare lip plastic for scuff marks. On 2nd gens it's common to trim away the bottom lip of the fender flare plastic to fit 285 tires. The fender flares on 2016s are thinner, so less trimming is required.

Are you running stock wheels? How much gap between the tire sidewall and upper control arm?

So from what I can see I don't think it's the cab mount (black metal in lower picture), I think I can see a rub mark on the plastic body colored flare. Take a picture of just those locations and post them. It sounds like your traction control is activating. Press and hold the traction control button for about ten seconds till it turns completely off. Then drive the truck and tell us if you still have the problem.

    LMAO
That's the skid control light or trac light, has nothing to do with rubbing, Have same issue 3inch lift same size tires , Happens on a good size bump on a turn, light set off from yaw rate sensor or traction loss on a wheel , Yaw rate sensor could be set off from more than stock body roll on turns, Checking with Toyota will udate when more info

I dunno. The shop said they did an alignment but I didn't get a report. I should probably get an official one from a tire shop?

Yes. Stock 17's. I have no idea about the gap and the control arm. Wtf is the control arm??

Yes the guy at the shop said he saw the rub marks in the cab mount. I'll get more pics tomorrow.

Lmao is right. I said from the start I know jack S about this stuff. Lol. I went to the shop and went "make my truck look like this"

The sensor isn't the only problem. It goes off when I hear and feel this horrible grinding. I think it's the cab mount too because it makes the noise every time the truck bounces after I hit a deep dip or bump or sharp hill.

I guess to reiterate the question: is this something I can live with as long as I'm careful to avoid triggering this situation? Is anyone's lift truly rub free?

The control arm that he is asking about is at the top of the tire it looks like a "v" and connects to the frame. Stick your hand on the back side of the tire at the top and see if you have enough room to get your hand between that "v" and the back of the tire. Yes there are many of us that are completely rub free, but there are those that rub. You are driving the truck not us so as far as living with it that would be your decision. As long as you have control of the truck and can drive it under normal conditions without rub I think you will be fine. As far as the traction control turning on that would be a concern for me, but again you could just turn it off. You would still have abs brakes just no traction control.

I really don't think you have a rub , I installed 3inch lift with same size tires , bounced my truck around off road no signs of rubs, the sound your hearing is the abs pump activating for skid control or track control , it dose sound like a rub , if you want go find some loose ground hammer down from a stop to get some wheel spin you hear same noise, or try to slide truck under acel. your hear or feel same noise, still waiting to hear from Toyota R&D going to try to recal my yaw sensor, pretty sure wont help but what the hell only take a min.

It's rubbing on the fender flare near the cab mount. Turn your wheel a little less and you'll see what I mean

So first and foremost, a sincere THANK YOU to all you guys who helped answer this.

I brought it to another shop and had the owner ride with me. He said it was exactly this. The trac control was activating because my yaw sensor hasn't been recalibrate due to the new geometry of the truck.

He also noticed that it happens on on ramps when the truck is at a heavy lean. The grinding of the trac control doesn't happen, but the light comes on.

I guess I can just live with it by not taking turns and bumps at 30mph lol.

Thanks for this post. OP, you described my issue perfectly!

I have a 3" lift myself and noticed this. I thought it was rubbing but after carefully inspecting all the angles on and around the wheels, nothing to indicate any kind of rubbing.
Going to look into getting my yaw sensor recalibrated to fix this issue, it's a real pain in the ass when it happens, just sounds so awful. Plus I don't think it's good when this is happening to the ABS system.
