Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

My guess .... There was crap in the gas at the gas station.

Or.. someone put sand in the filler neck and it got washed into the tank when he filled it.

 

Pretty sure they said "Fuck it, I don't know whats wrong, lets just put in a new engine and full wire harness and call it a day. K 14k now, your fault. "

 

Did they tear down an injector or the fuel pump and find sand in it?

 

Gotta pay to play. This sort of thing is why I keep in mind that the Tacoma is basically a full-size SUV with a bed, not a truck in the traditional sense of the word. No running around pulling out strangers or pushing the vehicle's limits here, unless I'm prepared to bust out my wallet afterwards. Chalk it up as a lesson learned and don't look back.

 

A $14k lesson for driving an off-road truck on the sand? Give me a break.

He was driving around in pismo and pulling people out. Things ive done 100+ times. Ive crossed the creek as well with water to my doors. Never a drop of sand in my tank, nor issues. Jeffs right, Momentum Toyota sucks, i have a service adviser friend who works there and hates life. Toyota Vallejo is the place to go.

Do 3rd gens have a gas door lock or is it open for anyone to possibly pour sand in?

Also, most people dont mess with your shit out there, at least i havent seen it happen in all my years out there. Especially if hes pulling someone out. They fucked you.

 

If sand got in the tank, how did it get past the fuel filter and on into the injectors????

Yeah, in this situation I'd take it to court. They need to prove that Sand will dissolve in gas, first of all, and barring that, they'd better have proof of sand deposits in the gas tank, fuel pump and injectors would have some clogged in there. Past that there would be some sort of deposits in the engine from "sand in the engine" which caused it to fail. If nobody took any pictures of any of that, its their word against yours and in court, you'd win with that IMO.

 

I'm betting you shorted something out in your wiring and they haven't gone wire by wire to try to find it, so they are trying to BS their way out of it

That may be the case, doesnt mean its right. The tacoma is pretty much branded as an offroad truck. Considering it actually shows Tacomas in the sand in the commercial for the 2016's, I dont know how you could think thats fair.

 

That quote is just for the fuel system according to who I talked to today.

They pulled a fuel line on the frame and said there was sand in it... but the sample they took in that really scientific starbucks bottle collection device, doesn't have any sand.
