Just anti lock braking...and for the first generation of antilock braking, Toyota nailed it.

Hope you're joking. 1st gen ABS is terrible.
Hmm, interesting. Never heard that before. My 03 doesn't have it.

yes. maybe it was only 04s but it was an option on 1st gens. Every now and then youl see people having trouble fitting 15" rims over the rotors. Thats because these models have bigger brakes.

I got up to go to work this morning, got in the truck and it wouldn't start. Engine was straining but it wouldn't turn over, and when I popped the hood I smelled hot belts. Didn't have time to troubleshoot this morning, had to get to work, so the wife drove me in. Been running worse-case-scenarios through my head all day, especially since I only just did the timing belt two weeks ago. I get home, finally get a chance to dig into it: A/C compressor seized. Cut the belt off and it turned right over and started up. So:

Good News: My truck is not dead! :yay:
Bad News: I have to replace the A/C compressor. Just when I was thinking I was done working on the truck for a while. :annoyed:

Any hints, tips, pointers, advice? I have heard that if the compressor craps itself you have to replace everything else in the system too since it's impossible to flush all of the debris from the compressor out of the other components. True or false?

Had absolutely nothing to do with traction control. In 04 they just upped the brake size. Never had traction control

Been threads on this before. A quick google would have it seem vsc was an option on some v6 4x4s in 04. :notsure:

I hope you're being sarcastic. I pray to god my ABS never kicks in. Shit is useless and I end up having to swerve around cars so I don't hit them when it kicks in. Run over a giant pothole while braking behind someone and tell me you won't shit yourself. It's to the point where I have to let off the brakes and reapply if going over a bad bump in the road. I wish I could just disable it.

Hmm. I think the light stays on though. I may just do that. Just do manual hub swap while I'm at it.
