Thanks. Yeah, I'm just tired of waiting at this point. No actual cause of failure has been told to me. I plan on going down to the dealership in person and having the mechanic walk me through it all. I have too many questions and apparently the SW's schedule and my own do not play so well together.

@perfectsoldier23 , imho you drew the small straw. Your truck can and will tow your trailer at your weight just fine. Will other trucks tow it better? Sure. Will your truck get it done, absolutely. People act like these trucks did the have EXTENSIVE testing, both loaded and unloaded. It sucks that you got a Friday truck, but the chances of this happening again is slim to none. Plenty of people tow with them.

I'd keep the truck and let her eat. IF you want a truck with an integrated tow brake, engine brake, then go grab a Colorado. Just don't think you will get a truck with no issues. Look at how many recalls Chevy, ford and ram have had in the last few years. It's all relative. Your going to get a new shortblock, it will be good as.....well better than new.

My best suggestion is going to be to find a new dealer for your servicing, just in case the oil service was the issue.

Also have you gotten your compression test results yet?

Also I don't think it's out of the question to go see your truck, and talk to the tech. In my experience he won't be as.....we will call it political, as the SW may be.

A proper break in was done - I didn't have a light enough trailer to tow until I had put several weeks worth of driving on it. 100% certain it was well over 500mi before I put anything on it.
ECT was engaged and always has been each time I've pulled with it. I am not sure what gear I was in when the failure happened.

I read your story of woe, not nice experience, if I was in your shoes I would lemon law the truck, or trade it for a different one, NO WAY would I get a ford, Chevy, or dodge or any other brand.

I think one question to ask is how many others are in that same shop for a similar issue, and how many others have the same issues just in San Diego. I had a causal conversation with an employee there today and yours isn't the only one. The theory is working them too hard burns them up. Can it be that the 0w20 oil is too thin and blows by the rings when being pushed hard? I know they're seeing lots of oil consumption problems. This kills me because I was hoping to tow with mine. Most probably won't fail, but the problem is a bit prevalent this early on. No way anyone can deny that with the reports on this forum. Time will tell and I hope this isn't true, but your trust in its towing abilities has been tarnished.

Multiple engines blown just in San Diego? Sounds like bullshit...
Man, wading through the bullshit and paranoia on this site is grueling. Im picking up a 3rd gen at end of May and Ive been obsessively reading this site. Might need to stay away for a bit.

... ^^^ ... Buy your 3rd Gen and enjoy it ... there are a few generic issues, like any new platform ... but the Tacoma is still far ahead of whatever is in 2nd place ... I have no regrets and this is my 10+ Toyota truck.

Isn't it pretty obvious at this point that 2015s are going to be in higher demand and thought better of than 2016s, when just comparing those two model years. There are plenty of 2015s available. I bought a 2013 with 25K. I think the engine is great. How does it benefit the consumer to make the engine's moving parts lighter and lighter just to save a couple MPGs on a truck?

Could be the truth. It makes you wonder why the OP'S engine parts are in backorder and she's the 4th in line to get parts.

When Toyota doesn't release engine failure numbers, your only other option is looking at 2005 2nd gen posts.

Like I told the other guy, look for yourself. You have this forum and the TTORA forum. Search through the pages of the first year 2nd gens and count how many engine issues there are. I'm looking through TTORA again just to be sure.

I know the actual number of NHTSA complaints about the engines not what trolling Sam posts in a forum and then is never heard from again.
