It works out for the best if you plan on keeping your truck for a while. It sucks if you buy/sell/trade trucks a lot

Under the new system, you pay a big lump sum when you buy your truck based on the value of the truck and then on your birthday each year, you only pay around $20. On the old system, it was a flat rate based on the value of your truck and a fee for the sticker, which could vary from around $100+. So if you keep your truck for over 7-8 years, you come out ahead on the new system b/c you only pay the fee for the value of your truck once and then just a sticker fee each year.

This was implemented (to the best of my knowledge) to prevent all the loopholes people went through when doing backyard auto sales for profit. Now, if you buy cars a lot and you're not a dealer, you either have to keep the title in the previous person's name and can't drive it after the tag expires or pay the value fee to get a new tag.

    Hope that makes sense

Same. When I bought my truck, I had to pay like $700 for the initial fee, but now it's only like $20/yr, which is great because I plan on keeping my truck forever. Goal is to have an antique tag one day lol
