I am getting ready to purchase a lift for my 99 tacoma and was getting a good deal on a used set of ICON 2.5 coil overs and UCAS for $1000. I was going to go with Fox in the rear. Is there any reason I shouldn't mismatch the front and rear? Any positives or negatives? I've always wanted some fox shocks but heard there digressive or even progressive maybe and I'm not just not sure if that'll make a difference from the front ICON being the opposite of digressive or progressive. Any help or insight is appreciated.

If it's not recommended I guess I'll just go ICON in the rear. I originally was looking and wanted fox all way around, but I can't pass up that deal for the ICON up front.

Did you mean fox 2.0s in the rear? Are the resis the ones with that little extra tube type resoivoir? What do they do different versus a standard shock and is it worth the extra mile? Is it a lot better/smoother ride?

From what u understand its not just for cooling the oil, it keeps the nitrogen seperate from the oil behind a piston (sometimes an air bladder)inside the reservoir. When the shock oil heats up and expands the pressure has somewhere to go. This combined with thr cooling helps eliminate shock fade.

Ive had 5125s (technically a 2.0 shock) hot enough to burn your hand and melt the boot a little ahah.

How do you keep your shocks cool when off the? I didnt really think they ever got hit to begin with...my dirt bike shocks/forks don't ever seem to get hot so this is all news to me. So the resoivoir shocks are basically for looks then? If they don't cool the shock down any considerable amount, then that would be my basic understanding.

Does anyone make 2.5 rear shocks or are they mostly 2.0s?

I have Icon up front, fox (w/resi+adjusts) in rear it's no worries. The nicest thing is being able to play with damping when your load changes. I'll actually be switching to Fox CO's in the future. My springs a corroding terrible on Icon's and the adjuster ring is froze.

its a good idea to keep the threads clean and spray a lubricant on them even if you go fox to prevent that

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I have Icon 2.5" reservoir rear shocks and they're stiff.

I see fox has performance and factory, but only factory on the resoivoir, both are 2.0 so what's the main difference of the performance and factory?

I'd bet (I don't know this for sure) performance are stiffer valved than factory?

I wouldn't think you'd need 2.5s in the rear being it's so light. I just want that nice Cadillac ride over potholes and everything else. I don't care about matching necessarily, like I said I was going to go fox all the way around just because I know they make good shit, so does icon and Kings. I just figured since I was getting a deal on the ICON front I could still go fox in the rear.

If thats all you want then 2.0 non ressis will br more than enough for you.

i dont think you will notice a difference in ride quality between icon or fox. my rear still a little stiff if there is no weight but if you really want to change the ride quality in the rear i would upgrade to a new leaf pack

So just the basic fox 2.0 performance non resis, like $260 for the pair should do what I'm after. I'm not doing anything to crazy, nothing over 50mph wheeling and that's pushing it on the extreme side of things. I know I need a new leaf packs, that will come a little later. Thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it!!
