I need a new cable modem. My old one is a DOCSIS 2. It's time for a 3.
I see them on Amazon from $40ish-$150.
Which one do I want and why?

I got a zoom and have been using them for ages. I never have issues but I've heard of people getting bad modems.

Otherwise Motorola surfboards are good as well.

See the news on Google letting the Nexus customers download full images and updates right away? No waiting for carriers mumbo jumbo

Also the new Nexus line will be HTC again.

The Motorola built Nexus 6 has been pretty solid.

That's always a good thing. I've had way to many issues with other Motorola phones in my past to get another one. I do have the Moto360 watch however which has been very solid as well.

Either way I'll be hanging out until the HTC release and then will be jumping ship from Samsung.

That's how it's always been that I know of. I think they're also easily root-able compared to non-Nexus phones.

The only Nexus phone I had was the Galaxy Nexus. Ended up trading it for an HTC phone.

I was thinking of the smaller OTA updates that come straight from Google, instead of waiting on the carriers to modify/test them.

So what Google is doing now is letting you basically flash a ROM without wiping the device. Something almost every 3rd party ROM/Recovery has been doing for years, and usually doesn't recommend.

It's so odd. The left thumb stick started drifting up. Ordered a new one and replaced it. Worked good for 4 days then got fully stuck at the top position.

Took it out, put another new one in, worked great for 2 days. Then same thing, stuck all the way at the top. Noticed this time on the install I didn't get it on the board perfectly level. Took it out, reinstalled it, it tests perfect now.

Odd part.. Y button is stuck on, Right bumper thinks its being pressed rapidly, right joystick down press button is stuck on. None of these components are anywhere near the section I just worked on. Took it apart and didn't see anything odd. Put it back together, Y button still stuck, Right bumper works now, Downpress button on right joystick now flickers vs staying on all the time.

Button 13 lights up every so often, but I can't figure out what the hell button 13 is....

No idea. It's taking a 'bath' in some alcohol.

I've had to disassemble and clean controllers after my kids have used them for a while.

I ended up taking it all apart and cleaning every section of it with rubbing alcohol then I put it back together. I let it dry for awhile and it still had issues after a minute or two of being on. So I took out the joystick, again, and re-soldered it, again. Plugged it in and it thinks it has 13 buttons again (should only read 11). I can't see anywhere that solder is touching that would create a short. Board isn't burned out and everything tests ok with an O-scope that I can see. This is also the second new joystick I've bought for it.

I said fuck it and just tossed the all the guts of the controller into rubbing alcohol and let it soak for a few hours. I'd would shake the bin every so often but didn't really see anything floating around. Took it out and let it sit outside in the shade for a few hours. Re-assembled and now it has 11 buttons. After about 10 minutes it lost connection with the PC again.

I haven't touched it in days, just plugged it in this morning to see what's up. So far it has been connected to my PC for 2 hours, still working.... It hasn't disconnected once, or decided to add new buttons that don't exist.
