Lost key...

hey guys, I'm new here and I just recently lost one of my key and an keyless entry remote control. Now I'm scare someone can have access into my car, so is there anyway I can reset the spare remote and the key into the main pair and disabled the other pair that i lost?

yea well they're closed right now and I also heard it cost a grip to replace

 

You need 2 keys and 2 remote's to get reprogrammed. Yes, its gonna cost 2-3 hundred probably, whether you go to Toyota or a locksmith with the right equipment. If its an immediate concern disconnect your battery when you park for the night.

 

The most you can do is change the code for the remotes, if you want to change the code for the key you have to change the ECU.

 

well the problem is who ever has my key right now has both key and keyless entry remote so what can i do?

 

Theres no immediate fix for this. Tommorow a dealer might be able to reflash the ECU for the pats system.

I think that should be enough, unless he knows it's for your truck he will have to go around putting the key in every Toyota he sees.

 

would putting an alarm be an option? can they disconnect my current keyless and put in an alarm and whoever uses my key I will know instantly?

 

Thats a good idea. I would just check pricing to reprogram vs price of a new alarm installed, and go the cheaper route.

Honestly, I'd just report the key as stolen to the police so there's a record of it, remove anything valuable overnight, ensure any mods are covered under insurance... and not worry about it. Worst case scenario, it's stolen and it's retrieved or you get a new one... Even then, it's highly unlikely that'll happen. Are you sure you didn't just missplace the key?

 

I knew this would happen...SOMEONE BROKE INTO MY TRUCK LAST NIGHT!! STOLE MY CB RADIO but lucky me they left my Avic D3 behind My entire car was trashed and dug up...Now i seriously need a damn alarm or someway they can't use that key anymore....

 

This has resulted from one of two methods:

1. The individual that has your key is an acquaintance and know where you live.

2. The individual who found your key drove around town all night hitting the unlock/lock button to see what Tacoma would blink its lights. I doubt very much he tried the key in every Tacoma he came across and just so happened to unlock the right door on yours.

Sorry to be an asshat, but if you had disconnected your battery as suggested or changed the code, the lights would not have blinked when the perp pressed the button, therefore he would assume the key didn't fit your truck. Either that or you have a desperate friend, or a very lucky criminal as he opened the first Tacoma he tried.

Try to think back to where you lost your key. Was it at work, friends house, restaurant? Any chance a co worker took it from work? Have a house party lately? Your chick have any disturbed ex bf's?

Sorry to hear about your loss, but you should have disconnected your battery. At least then you would have known it was an acquaintance or someone that knew your truck beforehand - not that just stumbled upon a Tacoma with blinking lights.

Contact your insurance company if you wish and get everything straightened out. Including new door lock cylinders, ignition cylinder, new programming for you immobilizer and keyless remotes. Get a couple of new keys in on the claim as well.

 

Yeah, If you lost your key somewhere where you may have used a card or check to make a purchace, some one could have easily googled your name, found your addy, done the driveby, confirm the key works and steal some stuff. However, the fact that they just stole the CB shows that they did not have much time and proally wanted something small and easy to sell. They could have waited or stolen the whole truck outright.

Ok i just went to the dealer and asked. They could change the code on the remote and the key i have to change the lock for the doors they dont know about the ignition key
