What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

So to clarify...
can fit 285's with bilsteins topped out if wheel spacers are used (I understand the variable is the wheel offset)?

I have heard that the bilsteins set on the top notch is not a good idea on our trucks. To much preload on the spring causes to much stress. So I would run an aftermarket coil. But yes 285s with a 3" lift will fit depending on your wheel offset. Factory with a spacer should be good to go.

 

Dealership I stalled Leveling Kit. I do very little off road driving and no heavy hauling! I like more clearance and higher stance!

 

^^^ from the looks of that image your ass end sits a lot lower than the front, did you do measurements before and after? and what is installed in the rear, a block, AAL, or nothing?

 

Well I ended up getting 885's. I guess we can all compare once we all get our kits haha

Good luck getting a solid answer on this subject. I've heard several people say their Boss kit from Toytec is awesome. At about $1200 it seems middle of the road and a safe bet with a company like that backing the product. Then you have the Icon/Kings guys who rarely have a bad thing to say but those kits can climb to several thousands of dollars. So it'd be safe to say with that kind of investment you don't want to be too nitpicky. I think you have to ask yourself what you want out of your lift and what's your budget. Then go from there. Personally. I'm waiting for all these people who got in on the OME group buy then I'll decide.

 

My main goal is street roads with the same driving and stability on highway some ppl say roughcountry 3" will do fine specialized shop tell me its trash dont know wich direction to go anymore does the shops want to sell the 4k kits or the guy with roughc kit drive like a grandma and cant see the diff....

Its all good. That's what we are all doing here. Learning stuff and having some fun while we are at it. My personal recommendation is to go on toytecs or headstrongs web pages and look at what is available. If you want to install the bilstiens I would get the ome 887 coils so that you don't have to jack them up so far. The farther up you go the more pressure that is on the assembly. To much pressure in anything is not a good thing. Spend the extra 180 bucks and have a much better set up.

Yea i saw this kit but never heard of this company before... Already got the trd offroad with billstein so i dont want to switch for something cheaper , thats the kind of kit im looking for tho

 

Don't do spacers and blocks and nothing that requires cutting, I know that it gives you the look but you will limit your capabilities off-road. Even if mall crawling is all you would do, do you really want to pidgeon hole yourself?

That OME kit mentioned above is an awesome option. If that $1300-ish price comes with coils already assembled then I would go with it (granted if this is your ideal spend limit). If that is just a kit all in pieces then I would use Headstrong Offroad. They are nice folks and most of their stuff ships free. They also have pretty good advice.

and Old Man Emu isn't junk. I may not be the only one to say that I think they are superior to Bilstein. There is a reason why they are so popular among Jeepsters.

 

That's what I've come to understand too. OME and Dakars are the way to go. Does this kit have everything that is needed, all adjustment pieces so that there isn't any undue wear?

 

My 98 Cherokee has the 2-3" OME suspension and it performs very well. I take it on Jeep trails all the time. This was my son's first off road trail drive at 15. I let him drive the easy section closer to the main road. https://youtu.be/N4cgwPWdHX8

It's not a massive lift, but it certainly can get me into places I like to go. Farther up that trail leads to Tizer Lake, it gets narrow, larger boulders and mud holes. No problems. It's also very compliant on the road.

It is what it is- a good all purpose off-road and street sane set-up. I'll more than likely get an OME for my 2016 Tacoma next year.

 

That OME kit listed is a relatively complete kit for the price. I would be concerned about customer service and warranties buying from ebay. But the OME product is good.

Comparable to that would be the BOSS 2.0 kit. With it you get adjustable coilovers. It is just an AAL but with near new springs on a 2016 you don't need to replace the entire pack.

You should be able to find that same OME kit from reputable TW sponsors like wheelers offroad for that same price or less. OME is a great set up. Ran it on my 2007 and it was bombproof. Not as flashy as fancy coilovers buy it is good quality.

I'd almost rather have the OME with the Dakars. I'm having the same issue many others are..... Flat/almost inverted leaf springs.
