Pics of your 1st gen lift? Before and/or after?

15"s really? I have 16"s right now and they look a wee bit silly to me, because of the lift and the appreciable gap between the the tire and the wheel well. I was more looking to go a bit bigger with the rim and the tire( nothing too big like a 20" rim) but somethign that would not leave such a gap( perhaps 17"s and a beefier tire?) I can afford to get a bigger size tire than the 16"s as well as the rims. A buddy told he learned from experience to hold on to the old rims and tires in case of something happening to the new set I buy. I think I'll follow that advice.

 

Also with the larger rims, you start getting that low-pro look. If you're going to be wheeling, it helps to have that extra 1-2" of rubber on the sidewall to grab rocks and mud. I think that our 4X4 Tacomas look kinda gay with anything over a 16" rim. If it was an X-runner it would be different , but if you're in a 4X4 or a prerunner, it looks kinda lame with a low-pro tire. I would never put anything larger than a 16" on my 4X4 vehicles. But that's just me.

and a decent 285/ all weather tire

do NOT get BFG A/T's. I have them and I HATE them. I hear the Toyo A/T's and the Mickey Thompson ATZ are pretty good.

 

On the top of the webpage, it says "Tacoma Photos v". hover the cursor over that and on the drop down menu it says "How To Post Pics". Click on that and just follow the steps. You will need to have 2 tacomaworld.com's open to post pics. One for your gallery that you upload the pics to, the other for the posting you are embedding the pictures into.

This was my 02. Stock with 265/70/16 Firestone Destination ATs.


Here was the same truck with a 3" Toytec spacer lift/rear AAL. 33/10.5/15 BFG ATs on 15x8 Cragar Soft 8 wheels. I loved the stance and narrower tires.

Are your side panels Rhino lined/Line-Xed?

 

Thanks. I really miss that truck. I did the side panels with a spray on bed liner. I did both sides, prep to finish, in a day. Poor man's sliders!

They weren't really hard to do, just tedious. There's just a lot of small tasks to do. Basically you just pull the old ones off, mark where you need to cut, cut, drill some holes, and install the Cut-Out's... Do this 4 times and you're done. Pretty easy. I'd reccomend you do it. But at $450 for a set, you REALLY don't wanna mess up. Just take your time with the prep and you'll be fine. If you decide to go through with it, just PM me and I'll tell you all the helpful tools that I used that would be a big help to you too.

did they really give you an extra inch of tire clearance?

 

You cut out an inch of metal on the front and back of the bottom of the panels. So they give you an extra 2 inches on the VERY bottom. The part I was interested in was the 3" of tire coverage. Not so much the "extra inch of clearence".

how did you get those cragars to fit?, i've heard that they will not clear without either some grinding or wheel spacers

Thanks! I really liked the Radiant Red and black together.
I used 1/4" spacers to push the wheels away from the calipers. It was $10 for a pair at the local offroad shop. I never had a problem although many people don't recommend that style of spacer.

I didn't have them, but for safety and peace of mind, I would recommend 1/4" longer wheel studs with this spacer style.
