    Thank you for the feedback,

We are actively working the issues. We understand the Tailgate Anti-Theft Device is not easy to install, but given the variations of each truck, the device may not fit every vehicle. We want to make sure we do not compromise the security making it easy to remove or cause a situation where the device can be bypassed. We have made a few changes to the product to address the following issues identified by our customers:
    1. Rubber popping out during installation: Added deeper groves on the inside of the part to allow for more clearance during the installation over the hinge cup and better retension
    2. Excess Weld Material on the tailgate: Added relief to address excess weld material on the hinge cup
    3. Hinge Pin Interference: Added additional relief to increase the installation angle to provide more clearance
Please contact support if you have questions or PM me

    Thanks again

Received mine a week or so ago. Seems well built, but mine came with a broken O-ring and a coating on the rings that flaked off like plastic. Needless to say, it's still sitting on my workbench. For the price, I was expecting a bit more.

Mine appeared to be a broken o-ring also, but if you look closely, it is a thin rubber tube that is cut and placed in the groove, held on by that flaking glue.

After just fitting the rubber tube back in the groove and using lube before installation, the o-rings slid right on the hinge cup without dislocating.

Thank you for that information. I'll throw some lube on the rubber and stick it back in. :rimshot:

It is not actually an o-ring, the tube is hollow and cut to size, then fit to the grove.

Here are the tools used for to install....

I can say this it is a pain in the ass but can be done as I did in 20 minutes...

1- The inner rubber rings came off right away
2- I removed the whole hinge cup or bracket whatever you wanna call it
3- I then set ring in place with rubber rings not installed
4- I then reinstalled screws loose to fit
5- Attacked lower bolt from under truck by bumper opening
6- I then tightened remaining screws
7- I did install it with the screw facing in if I have to remove it for ease of removal
    7- Done

Should at least give the ones trying to snag it enough trouble to move on to the next one or vandalize my truck since they can't get it.

I did the TomWil method also, just as the pictures stated above.. got it done last night in about 15 minutes.. mine actually slid right on, I put a little WD40 on the orings and it was nice and smooth.. works great!

We are finished with some mods to the product and will be testing these on some trucks in the local area. We will post some updated pictures this weekend.

We only have limited quantities available for testing right now. If you have a 2015 or 2014 and are in Torrance, PM me, if it fits it yours (5 available). Once we are finished we will then implement the change and ship the orders pending.

    The mods address the following:
    1. Rubber popping out during installation: Added deeper groves on the inside of the part to allow for more clearance during the installation over the hinge cup and better retention
    2. Excess Weld Material on the tailgate: Added relief to address excess weld material on the hinge cup (if your truck has really big weld send us a picture)
    3. Hinge Pin Interference: Added additional relief to increase the installation angle to provide more clearance
Thanks for you interest and support

Received and installed mine this morning. I put Ballistol on the rubber ring, which helped to install. Once I reviewed the picture on the website, I was able to see what to do. It was a bit of push with a screwdriver, but its on and tightened. I believe it is supposed to fit loosely, so there is no friction when opening and closing. Glad I got it.

Here is the first picture of version 2.0 with the mods in my previous post.

    2005_2015_taco_pp_black_r2.jpg

    Product updates:
    1. The grooves are deeper preventing the rubber from popping out.
    2. The inner diameter was reworked to have more clearance for easier installation over the hinge cup.
    3. The small notch a the top allow the part to clear the hinge pin
    4. The weld relief to the right accounts for not so optimal robot welds
I have a few in stock, with more being machined in the shop.

    Hope this addresses everyones concerns.

Having a hard time visualizing this, but shouldn't that top notch be on the outer ring instead of the inner ring, since the outer ring is the part that has to clear the hinge pin?

Actually, putting the notch on the outer side makes it less secure. Once installed and fastened the outer piece is what prevents the tailgate from being removed. The inner piece combined with the interlocking feature allows the part to get narrow enough to fit through the hinge. The notch on the inside allows the part to go farther to the left when facing the front of the truck and at a greater angle which adds the clearance for the hinge pin. Once the part is fastened the notch is no longer used.

Honestly, it's not that hard folks. A nut driver and, yes, I used spit on the o-rings.

I installed it on my 2007 I do have a 2000 as well. Pretty sure they only offer it for 2nd gens and up. It came with the modified torx bit you need for install.

You should definitely not use spit as a lubricant. Rust is bad on metal parts already, but gingivitis is going to create 3 times the problem.

Really? Pretty sure the first rain fixes that. And you should know, I floss on a daily basis
