Thanks for checking in. I love that pic!

I agree with all your points, and your comments about the paint made me raise an eyebrow. I ordered a paint pen last week to touch up a few chips thinking I was just unlucky. I baby the hell out of my truck, so I was getting bummed to see so many paint chips. Maybe there's an issue after all.

My main reason for changing the shocks was a budget lift. Second is I love 5100's. I've had them on my 4runners and love the stiff ride. As for difference is think there is a huge difference for my type of use. I was bottoming out my stock OR suspension the first few weeks I had the truck. There is a lot more oil capacity inside the 5100's compared to the stock bilsteins. This greatly helped reduce shock fade I experience after 45 minutes straight of rough corrugated roads.

That increased weight and parasitic drag should be good for fuel economy.

    Well I've
Well I've asked for opinions on 5100s being a value worthy improvement over stock trd OR suspension before and received feedback that it does not make much difference in ride quality off road so it would not be worth it. Also as a hunting guide I traverse unmaintained fire roads and service roads regularly. I put about 200 miles on them yesterday on a turkey hunt. I've got the stock setup and it gets me everywhere you can physically fit this truck. Keep waiting for my tires to blow on the jagged shale rocks in canyon country, driving over rotten logs etc. Didn't needed bigger tires or lift so far. This truck has plenty of clearance stock. Only area I've really had any contact is departure angle part of the problem there is my hitch usually hits first. As long as I'm not doing 20mph over that stuff (which I would never do anyway) it isn't a problem. I think a lot of people just want to rationalize and justify purchasing bigger tires or adding a lift because it's "cool" but not because it is absolutely necessary.

PS: I got the Tacoma because it squeezes back into areas where a full sized truck won't width-wise nor height-wise have the clearance. Adding a lift and bigger tires in many cases means I can't squeeze into those trails that have half-fallen trees or low hanging branches that would crush a windshield on a full sized truck. I've got as much pin striping on the top of my truck as I do on the sides. Also at some point lift can detract from stability in off camber situations where you might have a 2 or 3 ft rut on one side of the 2 track road with trees on either side, there's no real option to go around it. No issues with high centering yet but I've been close enough to where a Long bed wouldn't have made it. I think this truck has just the right amount of lift and clearance in stock form for what I actually NEED it to do which is pretty much everything short of Rock Crawling.

Calm down Deanna. It's a forum where not everything discussed is going to be to your approval or liking. Ignore me if you don't want to read my posts and get your panties out of their wad.

I don't ignore anyone no matter the douchebaggery, my skins a little thicker than that, but you honestly contribute nothing of value to this site any longer except your jaded opinions and smart ass remarks. The shtick is old.

    Sorry TH, back on topic.

Having a discussion here to determine if any real tangible value (or just perceived value) in upgrading from Stock TRD OR suspension. OP senses that the 5100s have improved his ride quality whereas I have heard others say there was not much difference. So on that note, if the 5100s are stiffer, that improves the ride on a pot-hole infested, washboard forest road at 35 to 40 mph? Because if there's that much improvement it might be worth it seeing as how I'm putting at least 100-200 miles of that under my tires for every trip I'm on. When I think "stiff" I think bouncy. Bouncy = not good. So maybe the description is just throwing me off. Personally don't see the value in a lift but that is an option on 5100s as you can adjust.

Coming from a Subaru Forester and an Outback (which I loved) I thought the paint on the Tacoma is a bit more durable than the Subarus. Probably the only thing on a Subaru that is as much or more durable! You looked at my 2012 Outback wrong and the paint chopped or scratched.

My only complaint so far is my all weather mats will NOT stop sliding out of place! The only one that will stay in place is driver side that attaches to the floor with mounts. Maybe I'll attach some velcro to the others or something.

Man you are right on the money there. I was thinking about buying weathertech or Huskys to see if they sit better. I have mud all in my carpet after every trip.

I'll probably end up doing the same. I'm sure someone will take your all weathers off your hands.

I have the Huskys, they have sharp spikes on the bottom and stay in place 100% better than stock weather mats. Every now and then do I see the passenger side move a half a inch forward.

I sure hope the Transmission logic update coming out will address some of the gear hunting. That's my only complaint about the automatic. And yes if I knew about the gear searching I would of waited for a manual.

I wish they had clips on the passenger side too.
