Assuming this is in reply to my comment. I was not towing when my friend was in the car. He was commenting about a previous trip I had made the weekend before towing an A-liner to the same location. Without towing the engine was revving 4500rpms.

I looked at used Tacomas and couldn't justify the price. IMO, there isn't much of a discount for a used one. I paid $30,900 for a 4X4 DCSB SR5 with 4 miles on the clock.

Valid point so money is not really the issue here, the consideration you have to make is whether or not you're willing to risk dealing with the potential issues as others have experienced here with the 2016. Do you like the way the 3.5L and transmission drives better than previous gen? If you never drove a 2nd gen you probably won't know the difference.

Is the 2015 a 4x4? If so, I would go with it over the 2016. $27.5 is a pretty good deal.

Man I must be one of the super lucky ones with zero issues on my 3rd gen. According to everyone in this thread every single one is a POS lemon  I'd get the 3rd gen again if I had to do it over. Stock for stock I like the looks of the 2nd gen better, but with a black grill and wheels/tires on both I like the looks of the 3rd gen far more. Drive both and pick the one you like better. Take what you read on this forum with a grain of salt. Both prices sound pretty good to me.

I am close to sealing a deal on a 2016 DC Sport brand new for 31700. It has steps and bed lights, no cover.
    So a used 2016 with 1000 miles for 31,000.
I would pass and go for the 2015.

Go with the 15. Too many problems have been reported on the 2016 maybe that is why someone traded it in. Go with the 2015 and hold on to it for a couple of years and trade it in for a 2018

Absolutely! I was really glad I had read through here before buying. I would have been annoyed at the way the truck "goes" after upgrading from a 2002 S-10 if I wasn't prepared for it. For a DD pickup truck, the Tacoma hauls butt plenty fine when you punch the gas, but when you are looking for that little bit of torque to increase speed on the highway, it ain't quite there like that little Chevy had. I understand why, and I was prepared and accepted it before buying because of reading about it here.

As far as issues otherwise.... I'm not having any.

I'd vote for the 2015, new model years tend to concern me and the 2016 seems to have a few kinks that need to be worked out.

2016...It's newer and will always be worth more.

I've been on car forums since the mid 90's and they have always been a great source of information. BUT remember along with the information you receive, it is also a place where the disenfranchised come to vent. I'm certainly not discounting what they're saying, but when the average car person is happy they do not hang out at forums. People here, who are not disenfranchised are entusiasts and are not the "norm". In fact, I hardly know of anyone who converses on car forums. UNLESS, they have an issue.

Are there issue? YES Can you use a forum as a "barometer" on the overall reliability of a vehicle? Most definitely not!!! It is the Tacoma's "DNA" which serves as the true measuring stick when it comes to reliability. Hell, I bet if you dig through this forum and read the issues over the last 10 years you'd probably buy a GMC!

Oh, why of course I have a 2016! Yep, there's a faint buzz in the pedal but it ain't nowhere near bad enough to even regret my purchase OR get rid of it! Would I tell you otherwise??? Why of course, where else can I go to vent!!!!

When you're talking real after tax money I would buy new. I would not buy a used 2016 just to buy someone else's problem. The used low mileage 2015 is OK but you still have far too much money in it. Ask your insurance what they would pay for it if you totaled it right after you bought it. Take it to Carmax and get a used buyback quote on it. Now see if you still want it. I'll bet it is worth far less than you think its worth. Do whatever makes you happy as you're the one who has to live with it.

A brand new 2016 will take a hit as soon as he drives it off the lot. Buying used is always smarter from a financial perspective as long as you aren't paying more than Market Value and there are tools and online resources to help you determine that if you're willing to put in the effort and time. It's just the way it works in the car business. You can also buy certified used and you get the warranty coverage as well.

I'd get the 3rd gen if you are really getting it for 31k that's a good deal as long as you can get a low interest rate. To say the 15 is a better investment... Idk. That 16 brand new is. 38k$ truck. 15 is is outdated interior and exterior. You will love looking at it everyday and driving it.
