Divorce the solenoid, repack with marine grade grease and synthetic conversion and you'll have a pretty decent winch

 

still gonna buy a 12 or 9K steel..

They have upgraded winch parts that the yotatech and EXPO guys get parts from for their badlands.

 

Get the 12 and put synthetic on

 

I was just wondering cause usually, with electronics, you get what you pay for.

 

They don't have whatever it is to keep the winch from overheating and that's the big setback. You can add whatever it is in from getting parts from that site but with the badlands and that problem they have its definitley better to get a bigger winch so it doesn't start melting wires when the winch gets stuck

 

I hate that old addage.. You just gotta know what you're getting and use it accordingly.

Yeah, I do to, but I've seen it hold true more than once. I guess a winch is something you don't use very much, but when you need it, it would suck if it didn't work.

 

I think I would be more ballsy and get stuck more

 

...or it worked when you didn't need it to.

 

Full disclosure...I have never owned a winch. I would worry about water more than anything. Is that unreasonable?? Can you dunk them and expect them to still work??

 

Good question I've heard multiple answers. Our trucks see a lot of water in our parts

 

most companies do a "dunk test" when they review their winches side by side.. idk where i found one but ive read some before. The badlands has worked when submerged though.

 

I wouldn't sweat it if I dunked one. Just do some maintenance and check and see if you need better/new grease after.

 

And that's kinda my question. Where I would likely get stuck, the winch would be under water. I wonder if it would do any good??
