whats gap insurance? Isn't a car considered totaled if the repair is worth more than the car itself?

Gap insurance is through Toyota. Basically they will cover the remaining value due to depreciation.

    The trucks a lease-to-own

I was curious as to how much my truck would be valued in a trade in...they told me 29-30k. It's a 2016 Tacoma 4wd TRD offroad manual transmission with tech and tow pkg and 10k miles. Lol...

Any spot there is rubber on the main fuel feed line you can cut the hose and insert a $1 paper fuel filter. That will keep the fine grit that gets past the sock filter from getting into the injectors.

It's a high pressure system so I doubt there's a bunch of rubber lines or a paper filter would work

Not sure. If they do total it, I don't have anything to trade or pit down for a new truck.

The first thing that should have happened was the tank dropped and inspected inside and see how much sand is really in there. If someone had a long scope they could have looked inside. No one's doing anything because no one knows who's going to pay. It's a shame for the owner and the insurance company. If someone dumped sand in the tank you can sure bet it's going to be a hell of allot more than a few grains of sand.

Honestly I think Toyota is f...ing with you. Those people can't figure out how to check transmission fluid correctly but you think they actually troubleshoot anything?. If truly water was to the wheels than nothing should have happened.

I agree with @chris4x4 that most likely culprit is that you sucked some water through evap system since its super low, also you could have screwed one or more o2 sensors as those absolutely go bad with salt water near them, lastly you could have shorted fuel pump itself since plug is low for relieving fuel pressures.
So if you got water in system that probably blew injectors but instead of replacing them I would get them cleaned and checked one at the time, replace only those bad if any, next in line is fuel regulator, purge all fuel lines, drain charcoal canister if anything is there, clean fuel pump plug (grey plug used to be on driver side frame goign back towards fuel tank), Check fuel pump itself, since those are higher pressure, water could have destroyed it in seconds.
Once you fix truck.... trade it for 2 gen.
No DI injectors to blow with little water.
Now before some retard claims its impossible to suck water from evap, let me point out where evap is.
Drop spare tire and look towards the tank, there is charcoal canister there and secondary air filter (one nobody cleans until they need to replace charcoal)
That system runs under vacuum, so if anything there is not properly sealed any amount water there will get sucked into the fuel system.
With DI injectors any amount of water will destroy them.
Good luck OP. I would try fixing and trading your truck.
And I get the joke that Offroad truck can not go offroad, but that is Turd Gen... there are plenty of 1gen and 2gen that played submarine running with out issues.

Talked with my Service Manager at Toyota of Bellevue and related these happenings and asked him about the fuel system.

His immediate response was that it is a closed pressurized system and contaminants cannot be introduced into the system except via the filler cap and if the cap were loose or otherwise there would be a check engine warning light.

His other immediate response what that someone poured sand or otherwise down the filler neck if that is indeed the problem.

Well that's two dealers who claim sand down the filler neck. Maybe it happened somehow? Apparently a minute amount of sand will trash this thing....

I was looking at the fuel system diagrams, and noticed there's the air inlet, and filter on the evap system by the spare, and a charcoal filter on the filler neck itself for the vent tube (I believe)... I wonder if pressure washing the nooks and crannies somehow drove sand down it? I don't think they lab tested the gas to see if fuel.

In fact, they never dropped the tank, only removed fuel lines after the tank and found cloudiness and 2 grains of sand (in the Starbucks bottle) that are so small I literally cannot see them
