He wants to look at the new optima he'll have to replace every couple years? I get it. He likes to work on his car.

Sir, you are the one that gave it a bad connotation. I actually have owned one of these for 5 years. Not the best but it gets the job done.

I never said they were bad.
I never said that Walmart builds them.

The reason I laughed was because this whole thread has been debating different (expensive) brands of batteries. Of which, this post caught me off guard.

I'm sure Walmart has no "specs" for any battery they sell since they do not manufacture the batteries themselves.

No hard feelings. I did think about someone getting that comment confused after I had posted it.

The only thing I will say is, I had 2 yellow top Optimas in my camry within the past 4 years (before my truck)...the 1st one went out under warranty and was able to get it replaced for free. So I can understand how people say their quality has gone down. at the same time, however, I got 2 Optima batteries for the price of one, so it was a glass half empty/half full kind of thing for me.

Note: my camry had been given me voltage regulator problems for over a yr, which may have damaged the battery

If the walmart battery fails under warranty you get a free one too. The problem is you have to make the trip to the store and face a scenario with a dead battery. Optima or not :D

I've seen those around a bunch but didn't have any insight into their quality. Any direct experience you have with those?

You guys are something else. If your batteries are dying under 5 years, usually something else is causing an issue killing the battery. I run a dual battery set up in my off road race trucks and use optimas. One running and one in stand by just in case of failure or the primary being unable to start the vehicle.

During non race weekends the vehicle gets started once a weekend and idles for 10-15 minutes on each battery. I'm yet to have to use the back up on my truck.

Damn the truck isn't a year old and already want to replace the battery. I had a red top...lasted three years. Currently using a die hard platinum battery. Almost 9 year's going strong.

My stock truck was around 18 months and the stock battery had to be replaced. I was going to upgrade to a Northstar AGM but decided to get a prinsu roof rack instead. I have never had a battery go bad in so little time.

I really like interstate batteries. There top tier is among the best in my opinion. Odyssey is best and that's what I will get when the stock dies. And sears sells a relabeled odyssey for a very decent price as their platinum line. I have heard nothing but bad about optima in recent years.

Been running one in my car for a few years and no problems, several friends of mine have them as well, they really like them and my second battery in my 3rd Gen is the Platinum battery that came out of my 1st Gen that was a year old.
