Hmm...I knew there was I reason I avoided the limited and that option. I've heard all kinds of theories as to why this happens, including having it tint. Must be the metal type tint! lol!

Could be related to the windshield crack issues, as well. Thinner, lightweight glass for that little bit better fuel economy might just be TOO thin and lightweight for the thermal and flexing/torsional stresses that the glass on cars is subjected to.

Great, "really hot day"...in Canada. How does that bode for those of us in Colorado, with summer temps in the hundreds? Not pleased, that I can tell you. My BMW X5 never had an issue with the sunroof in all the years I had it parked at the gun range in broiling heat. My trophy wife's Saturn Aura has a sunroof with no issues for years. Now, I need to worry about a brand new 3rd gen Tacoma sunroof...oh, wait, "moonroof"...AH! there's the problem!!!

Not just 3rd gen, any new sunroof on a car today. Could be many different reasons they're popping but the leading causes appear to be cars are built more airtight than before, stress to the roof and heat build up between the glass and cover so keep it cracked open on really hot days.

Moonroof gives a nice open feeling (just having that glass up there)

My favorite feature of my 1994 Toyota MR2 turbo was the glass t tops

Having the T tops in rain or sunny days made the cabin feel amazingly bright

Lots of Acura TSX lately being reported with exploding sunroof. Warranty haven't been covering them

    Some Subaru WRX as well

That's why they use a moonroof instead. Sheesh!

I've had two sunroofs total, still have one on the 4R limited, no issues whatsoever. They're nice, I have to admit, but I do know about their issues due to their complexity and that goes with the territory.
But I have to say, I wouldn't want it on a truck, especially a 4X4 truck, if it's going to be used as intended.
    Stay safe
    Cheers!

    Different people use 4x4 differently

I use mine as needed for my date farm
And a moonroof is something I cherish

    To each their own :)

    You're totally right!
I should have said, when used as intended and the fullness of its off-road capability.
But to each their own is what makes the world go round & round, tit for tat! lolo!
    Stay safe
    Cheers!

My first 4x4 was a Toyota Master Ace Van 4x4, diesel. It had literally full glass roof. Gorgeous on a night with no light pollution to look up and see the sky :)

    Have a good friday

TOKYO—Toyota issued a recall this week due to an issue with passengers being accidentally ejected vertically.

According to Toyota, the passenger seat dislocates from its position and moves in an upward motion, leading to the danger of a passenger being ejected from the car in models with sunroofs.

Thousands of consumers have already reported injuries, with over three hundred reporting deaths.

According to Toyota CEO Kesuke Miyagi, the recall is the result of a silly mix up where a custom-ordered blueprint was used for production.

“We cannot go into details of who this client is or why he needed it,” said Miyagi. “Regardless, blueprint number 007 accidentally went to production as our engineers mistakenly thought the low number meant it took priority as most of our blueprints have higher numbers.”

The seat can be superglued in place for free at any authorized Toyota dealership.

Alternatively, Mr. Miyagi announced that those wishing to keep the feature because “it’s actually pretty cool,” are eligible for a complimentary parachute.

Toyota also announced family members of the deceased will be compensated with one fully-loaded 2010 Yaris for each family member lost due to the malfunction, with a maximum claim of six.

I wonder how 300 consumers reported their own deaths.

    Just a few LEDs...
But the glass has to be thin enough to allow the ejection seat to work properly.
