^ It's called flex section. Any decent shop can weld you one in no time. I've been suggesting it many, many pages ago...

I have not been under that many cars, but e.g. Subarus have front section of the exhaust rigidly mounted to the engine and transmission. Only the catback section is mounted via a movable joint, usually a so-called donut and spring bolts. Aftermarket exhausts often do that with a flex section.

In definitely agree with it corresponding with the audible exhaust drone..there i something there..looking at the left side of the exhaust, it comes off the engine and passes very close to the steering shaft and firewall/floorboard corner. I think that area is a cause, but i havent had time to mess with it. I am thinking of band clamping some heavy to that section.

Exhaust and engine mounts seem to be the most popular reason for cause. The softer
rubber hangers may be a great place to start - cheap and easy to swap out to test.

Don't forget Toyota Corporate Engineer Response: "Steering functions as designed", so they tip-toed around the buzzy vibration coming from anywhere and THROUGH the steering wheel and just said the truck steers OK....my attempt to turn it into a safety issue via my numb hands was a no go...and I haven't experienced it recently, since I refuse to drive the truck any distance on the freeway/highway. The last I checked, they closed my case and said they would not re-open it; although, they did say that the comments were 'noted'. A bunch of legal mumbo jumbo hogwash....

I'm glad for those without the issue...just wish those of us with it could get that resolution as, who knows, a fix (like Lexus motor mounts?) might make it a smoother ride for all......

I tried to stuff some insulating material between the cabin and those buzzing lines i outlined earlier, no go, still vibing so time to keep looking.

However, while testing, I did notice that the vibes are greatly reduced BEFORE the truck has had time to heat up. If I can get it to a section of road where I can get into that RPM range in a higher gear before the truck has had time to warm up, I barely feel the vibes, especially in the steering wheel. I know others have said colder weather makes a difference. More food for thought.

The exhaust resonance is still a possibility. I'll look there too. There are a couple suspect areas where it looks like the exhaust is a direct connection to the frame. But if it was solely due to this, every single person would have the same problem. I'm still looking for any close clearance lines that could be leading to the chassis somehow as well. I wish there was a non viber that could feel certain parts of their engine and see if they vibrated a lot as well to narrow things down, but without that I guess it is just a slower process.

Note that I checked those lines you mentioned and can certainly feel the buzz in them.....

I have a half mile drive and two stop lights between my work parking spot and the interstate to go home. Most of the time I'm on the on-ramp just as the temp gauge is clear of the lowest hash mark. That acceleration run is the buzziest and loudest time in my truck - usually because I'm deep into the gas pedal as the engine is flat gutless when it's cold. When I do get to cruising speed it does seem like there is less vibration.

Ok I won't rule those out yet, I will double check again. Because we have you and me vibing and saying those lines buzz (I believe big one is purge line, 2 smaller are fuel) and a couple non vibrators or minimum vibrators saying those lines DON'T vibrate. Hmmm.

If you are driving on a flat road with little or no load, the vibes are less. For me, and others, the vibes are much more pronounced when there is even a slight load on the engine. My area is somewhat hilly and the second I start up even a slight grade its buzz city.

I don't know if this will help you guys. Just relating my experience. I had the buzz/vibration at 2000-2500 rpm from steering wheel and accelerator pedal, it wasn't horrible and I love the truck too much to get rid of it. I recently put on a Magnaflow 19291 cat back exhaust. This is a pretty much a OEM exhaust with larger pipes and a less baffled muffler. It mounts in the same hangers exactly as The OEM. When installing in order to get the original exhaust out of the hangers I sprayed them liberally with silicon spray. (Don't use WD-40, its oil based and will cause rubber to swell). I noticed while removing the original exhaust the hangers were very stiff and not pliable, as they should be. They also did not slide freely or rotate as they should within limits of design. After working getting the OEM exhaust off they became more pliable and slide and rotated much easier.
I have notice a significant decrease in the buzz/vibration since doing this mod. It is not completely eliminated but is significantly less. I am of the opinion that loosening up the rubber hangers helped as the exhaust is pretty much a replacement OEM. I hope this information may be helpful. I do not know if I am the only one to have this experience.

Ok, someone else has to try this! Also curious if the difference is in the hangers or the exhaust. I know you say the exhaust is similar, but I wonder if it's different enough.

Has anyone with the vibration tried mounting a GoPro under there as someone suggested months ago?

Don't think that will do anything, it's a feel, not a visual vibe

I have silicone spray, I'll go try this and see how it drives in the morning on my way to work. I can't drive it tonight, I live in an apartment and have too good of a parking spot right now :D. Just hope when I hit that 3.5k powerband my exhaust doesn't fly off the mounts

EDIT: Alright, I hit em with silicone spray. I don't know how much faith I have in this though, mine were pretty easy to move around already. I feel like with a little effort I could have pulled all of them off without lubing them.

It is so high frequency, I doubt you'd be able to see much unfortunately.

So maybe it's the exhaust itself.

I'm going to order some exhaust hangers from Honda. The other car is an Acura MDX. I checked its hangers after work and the rubber is about as soft as one of those pink erasers. The ones on my Taco feel like they are solid plastic.

I don't know man, I just looked at mine tonight. Mine seem to move easily enough on the hangers and aren't too hard. I tried the silicone on them anyways and will know in the morning if it made any difference (doubtful at this point). I have strong vibes too.
