Looking for advice on my 2002 Tacoma. Hard slamming over pot hiles

hate to tell you but those rear leafs are SHOT!

could you post more pictures of the suspension front and rear?

I just wana see how the rear is lifted and how sagged the front is but i believe new coils and leafs will be in your future for sure.

 

The back is just blocks.

 

When i first got my truck it rode and handeld like crap, i immediatly got eibachs and bilsteins with an add a leaf in the rear and it drove like a whole new truck

 

It drives great and the front is solid. But if I hit a big dip or hole it hits hard in the front. Hunter alignment things it's the tires . I'm leaning more to what I'm learning here from the bump stop issue ???? I don't know what size or how tall I should get though

 

Most DB lifts just have the upper bump stop "pad" built into that lift, or should i say "drop" bracket. It should mimic the stock pads that you have there already that are on the stock crossmember that you see several inches above the rubber stops. Ive never seen one without bump pads on the new bracket. Im fairly certain there is nothing on the market as far as super long bump stops, atleast not as long as you would need to correct the issue...thats pretty janky that the lift didnt have built in pads for the original stops to be utilized!

I do! I was just looking for one for you! So thus is just a generic pic i pulled off google. I dont kniw what brand this is but you can clearly see that the new bracket came with pads for the bump stops to contact. Where as yours has nothing there to stop the suspension.

Great..... I can't believe tuff country is still in business . They won't even return my calls or e mails. So that's what I need.... Also my carrier bearing is sloppy like a half inch of play. But I'm reading that it will just wear out do to the angle with my five inch lift

 

Yeah...junk country....your carrier will have a bit of slop even when new but a half inch is pushing it for sure. If you want that can be dropped if its not already. You can do it yourself with washers to drop it or there are brackets you can buy, but they are way more expensive and do the exact same thing as washers...

I still cant believe the lift dosent have the bump pads on the new bracket! Like i said earlier ive never seen a DB lift without that feature incorporated into the new bracket...weird..

 

I wish someone on here had the same problem so I could copy them. It's never ending

 

Only thing i can think of is weld or drill and bolt (or use a self tapping screw) a piece of steel(like square tubing) onto the spot where the bump stop used to contact. It should be obvious where it used to make contact. Well now that i think about it you'll pry have to weld. There would be no room to screw or bolt a piece on there...other than that i dunno??

 

If you hit a large pothole you're going to feel it, and probably damage your vehicle. My professional advice, attempt to steer your vehicle around large potholes.

Another option if ya dont wanna weld a piece of steel on your crossmember would be to try and order that drop bracket from another manufacturer and toss that one youve got now. Even though itd be from a different company it will still fit just fine but it would have those bump pads you need. Maybe even junk country will send you one if you get ahold of them about the problem and send pics. I just cant imagine that all their kits came without the pads on that bracket!

 

Here for example is a fabtech kit. The bracket you would need is the second one back from the front. I know that fabtech will sell individual parts from their kits if you contact them. Also you see how their bracket includes the bump pads on eack end of the bracket. You need to figure out if its a 4, 5 or 6 inch kit though! Fabtech makes 4 and 6" where as some companies only made up to 5 inch kits. To figure that out you can simply measure the distance from the bolt that connects your lower a arm and measure straight up to the bolt that connects the top of the new bracket to the frame, which used to be the same place your lower a arm used to be bolted to pre lift install. Measure center of bolt head to center of bolt head. It prolly wont be exactly 4 or 6 inches or whatever but youll figure it out, itll be close enough to be obvious.

 

Well shit now that i think about it you would need both brackets cause the fuckin rear of your a arm needs a bump stop too(notice the fabtech kit has bump pads on both of those brackets in the pic)!! Since that pile of shit lift you have dosent have at all! Front or rear, jeeesh! Man i guess it would be best to scrap it and start over. I know thats not what you wanna hear but i dont see much of a way around this lil problem we have here. I guess you could go back to the weld some steel spacers on there idea?? Would have to be two on each side, front and rear of the lower a arm....this sucks..

Junk country definitely needs to give you an explanation! Even though you didnt buy and install the kit you needs some explanation or new parts or something for crying out loud!

 

That takes a lot of money in suspension, fab work and hours of tuning. My advice is not drive over potholes haha. Also check out timbren or energy suspension bump stops.
