... ^^^ ... I saw a lot of the required tests, certifications, inspections and etc. was necessary for excellent QC ... but some of the stuff was really off the charts and was questionable as to real safety & QC ... IMO.

The parts for civilian aircraft was almost as expensive and the DoD equipment ... especially if the DoD aircraft was still in development or early production.

IMO ... Holding back aka hoarding of spare parts (by manufacturing vendors and/or sales/distribution vendors) was main cause of parts shortages, thus driving up the already very high prices. "Sole Source Manufacturing" would cost you big time too. US parts vendors are pricing themselves out of the aircraft parts business and opening it up more to foreign vendors. These are only my opinions based on what I saw and continue to see.

A lot of people give cirrus shit... They breed lazy pilots... Which can be true... But you can't beat the comfort and roominess of that airplane... :) did 2 hours in it today :)

I might be in that group :anonymous:, but the fact that you point it out tells me your not a complacent pilot.

    How was the flight?

    ... ^^^ ... You brought up a very good point .....

My starter planes made me learn "how to fly" more by the seat of my pants ... i.e....150s & 170s like most beginners. I did get to experience a J-3 and an old Rockwell crop duster.

Always wanted to do an ultralight, but didn't take it off the ground. I got a great photo of a guy flying a gas powered fan parachute into a sunset a month ago at early dusk. Beautiful pic and I will find it and post it.

IMO ... don't want to make anybody mad here ... but doctors are some of the worst by not training enough and buying too much aircraft for them to handle. ..... And some commercial pilots who had very long haul runs and with auto on for everything from take off to landing. Too many pilots have forgotten their true elementary flying skills ... IMO.

    Great points/posts.

Look at the crashes of some very advanced automated aircraft because blockage in a pitot or static port...one tiny issue. Off the top of my head I can think of an A330, A320, 2 B757s & a B737 that resulted in death & hull loss over such a blockage and resulting bad or split indication

I'm no pro at flying by a wide margin but having owned, flown & fixed my own for years & being around ATPs & A&Ps daily I see it...

I also think to be a really good pilot or mechanic there should be some cross training.

I've worked at more than a few major airlines in different jobs but, the gate call where a wide body FO tells me the wing is delaminated is frightening when he's pointing out symmetrically drooping slats. Of course there's stories of mechanics working systems without knowledge of how the systems function let alone how they are intagrated and interact overall and with other systems.

I bought a 2016 Tacoma a few months ago and have been reading the threads almost exclusively in the 3rd gen section. Tonight I decided to do some exploring and found this thread. It sure brought back some memories. I got my Commercial Pilot License and Instrument Rating around 45 years ago while still in college. After graduation I went to the Navy flight school and end up spending 20 years and retiring from there and have not done any flying at all since then. Not long ago I looked into renting an aircraft just for fun and was shocked at the prices. When I started it was only $13 an hour to rent a Cessna 150 and the instructor was only $6 an hour. At least it does not cost me anything to read about all of your experiences. Another thread to take up my time. At least I am not on facebook.:plane:

Haha thanks! I'm definitely not a "natural" when it comes to flying which is why I'm constantly trying to refine and learn... It is rather addicting however :). Have you seen that "worlds okayest pilot" shirt? Gotta get me one of those...

Local guy at the airport bought himself a very pretty new sr22t few months back... Way too much airplane for his skill level... And now he's got a 709 ride coming up for busting the phx bravo twice... Once on the way into SDL and once on the way out...

Agreed.... I started in a 64 Cherokee 180 and have flown quite a few flights in powered hangliders and kit foxes lol...

Welcome to what just might be the best thread on TW :) I bet you've had some really cool experiences flying! Feel free to talk about them if you'd like!
