    2014 double cab.

Currently running a access soft cover but want something I can lock. Looking at either a hard cover or a cab level cap. I really like the ARE Z series caps but not the price tag so much but still leaning that way. I know each has a downfall.

Any suggestions, opinions or pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You arent going to find many covers that lock. Why not try a pop and lock then you can get whatever top you like.

I like the Roll-X Hard rolling cover.

What did you give for that? That with a pop-a-lock should be good to go. Does it function good, any issues with it????

I got it from the dealer. Shipping to Hawaii sucks and the dealer was the best price. No issues. And no need for a pop-a-lock. The cover locks the bed.

Go call the guys at autoanything.com. They seem to be the best online price.

I have a BakFlip Tri Fold hard cover over my truck bed and I also (self) installed a pop n lock (mentioned above) and i love the 2 together. It was cheaper to go this route since i wanted full use of my bed as well one that locked. Looks pretty awesome as well

I have the solid trifold (in the foreground)

pros - with a pop n lock locking tailgate latch, it provides bed security. The whole thing removes really simply and quickly, so as long as you have a place to keep it, you can have a free bed or covered bed whenever you want. The flat surface is very sturdy, and provides a handy deck you can stand on, cook on, or whatever.

cons - with it installed you are limited to bed height cargo. A camper shell would allow way more cargo. Also this particular model sits on top of the bed sides, so it really limits (or removes entirely) your ability to add a bed rack. This model requires the tailgate to be open in order for you to access it. This isn't a huge issue but if you had a goal-post style T bar supporting a rooftop boat from the hitch, you couldn't access the closed trifold cover without removing the boat, because you'd have to remove the hitch T bar in order to open the tailgate.

For me it is fine for now, and greatly increases the utility of the bed, but I plan on one day upgrading to a secure rack, or a camper shell.

I got used to the fullsize truck beds so this short double cab bed it a bit smaller with the soft cover alone which is why I am a bit apprehensive on the standard hard cover.

I really want the full cap but they want 3k with the roof rack option from the local ARE dealer. I am going to go check out the roll-a-lock and backflip models this weekend. I appreciate the responses.

Are you locking anything of serious value (tools, machinery, etc) on a daily basis in the bed?

If you are, I would definitely recommend a cap.

I found a used undercover classic on Craigslist. It was only 250. No need for a pop lock, it locks to the rails and covers the tailgate. Scour the inter-webs. You'll find something to fit your truck

I have an Extang Solid Fold and a tailgate Pop-n-lock. Same basic configuration as the solid trifold above. Nothing is perfect, but this cover has been a very good all around option for me, and it comes off quickly when necessary - less than 40-50 pounds. The bed rails are usable when it's on. Also, you can run with it open, giving you the back 2/3 of the bed uncovered for tall loads.

It is water-proofish. A car wash or strong hose can get some water inside, but hard rain parked or driving isn't a problem. I have a 2nd gen, and there was another thread regarding water problems on 3rd gens. I haven't had any issues.

I know the ARE's are really nice, but if you're not deadset on the them, the leer or jericho cab height bed caps are like half that price. Maybe worth checking out?

I'm leaning between that and a cab level cap. This seems a better option than a fiberglass cover.

Roll-X It locks down and with a pop in lock, the bed is about as secure as it is going to get. Roll the cover up and you have the full bed usable. My problem with caps is the limited visibility.
