    Then buy one from the dealer and go home and bulk order online.

    Jesus, is this really that hard? Google probably has the answer as well.

    There's no law that says you can't get information about your vehicle from the dealer. That's kind of their role.

    It's not nice or un-nice, friendly or un-friendly, it's simply stating a fact.

    You seem like you'd rather have someone else do the footwork of finding out the info for you rather than take one of the many options provided to you for you to acquire the information you need yourself.

    I just hold an empty beer bottle under the filter drain while removing the filter. Works fine and every shop has empty beer bottles.

    Any tips out there for getting a better read on the dipstick? Mine seems to drag oil and usually half of it ends up being covered in oil. Sometimes one side reads well but it's not always ideal.

    Should you be checking the oil level while its running or wait for it to settle after stopping the engine.

    Scuff up the end of the Dipstick with emmery cloth, or the like. I run the engine, then let it sit for a couple mins. then check the level.

    Good suggestion but I don't think It's going to work 4 me. I drink Yuengling Porter, it's the same color as old, dirty, used motor oil and has a similar taste, I am easily confused :confused: I might drink half a bottle B 4 I know it. :rolleyes:

    I didn't see an answer to this in the thread...

    In cold weather, does it take a long time for the oil to drain from the engine? If I change the oil first thing in the morning (in 30-ish weather) w/o running the engine, is the oil going to take forever to drain?

    Just changed the oil &filter on my sons '10 2.7L 4wd reg cab for the first time. After a quick assessment my first idea was to remove the engine skid plate before attempting the job but as we all know, lazy trumps everything so I skipped that step. Bad move. I ended up removing it anyway except it was much messier with a couple ounces of oil on top. Next time that will be the first step. On the 2.7L 4wd its much easier removing the skid plate first, unless of course you have the luxury of a lift and have a little more mobility than lying down.
    The factory O/F on the 2.7 was a 90915-20003 and the replacement from the dealer is
    $53 90915-YZZD1 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)
    90915-YZZD1 for around $5.50.

    So when you removed the old oil filter, were you able to use the tubing as described for the v6, or do 4-bangers not have the luxury of that particular item? I got under my truck, saw the filter (upside-down), saw the main drain plug, but didn't see the oil filter drain plug as described.

    I was discussing with a friend regarding the steps to this oil change. In my old car i would usually just drain the oil from the oil drain plug located on the oil pan. In this tutorial it states to

    Connect a 5/16" 5 foot long tube to the filter drain, and run it to your Oil catch pan. Useing a filter wrench, remove the filter:

    Then you replace the filter, and you remove the oil drain plug and let the rest of the oil out. What are the consequences if there is any IF you just remove the oil drain plug and let the oil drain from there INSTEAD of the oil filter first?
    ( this was discuss because if someone doesnt have a 5/16 foot long tube)

    Heres what I do.

    Remove drain plug, let oil drain out for like 20min or so.
    Remove old filter.
    Drain plug back in with new crush washer.
    Lube new filter, put it on.
    Put new oil in.


    I dont use hoses or anything.

    Thats because you have a first gen. On the second gens, the oil filter is on the top/driver side of the engine.
