Not debating! Putting the last little bit of money aside! And clearing a spot in the driveway... :anonymous:

The guy I'm buying from has replacement quarter panels for the entire cab. Frame is fully restored... Runs decent. Needs a tune up though... No problem! Going to turn it into a welding rig. Flat bed with a miller bobcat on the back. It'll be sweet.

If you go that route you should save the original bed. The old FC's are rare enough that cutting them up or scrapping good parts is a sin.

    Plus...
The FC170's weren't known for being powerhouses. You may rethink adding several hundred pounds of welding gear after you drive it a bit, lol.
What was great power for the 60's isn't always sufficient for the modern world. Dodge dropping a Slant Six into a 3/4 ton 4x4 is a perfect example, haha!

Yup I did. I only remember it because I broke my neck looking at that old yota truck bed sitting on a frame. I was buying an old Yamaha 80 from somebody over that way.

Ha! Yeah it's still there. My brother bought that and another as a "deal" for parts. He ended up flipping the other junk truck for a little cash. The one you saw I believe is an '83, it needs either alot of bullets or a heck of a lot of money put into it.

It is a pretty grunty little tractor. But no power, you're right. Sadly the bed is just past the threshold of being too far gone. no donor parts to stitch it all back up. It's completely rusted out in the bed, along with the rails. I will have to fabricate almost the entire bed to get it to look original. I probably will though... I love the look!

Yeah, if it's anything like my Power Ram it's geared for gobs of torque and has no horsepower. You can tow a house, as long as you don't mind taking 3-4 minutes to hit 60MPH.

Lined up the A pillars pretty good yesterday and they're ready to be cut (flared) and welded next work day.

Took a bit more metal off the rear window area to get rid of the hump kind of shape the stock roofline has to it, the new roofline rolls to the rear and when it's patched up and complete will have that nice tail dragger flow to it and a smooth roll onto the catwalk and deck lid.

Will probably be 2 weeks before we get on this again with Mother's Day coming up this weekend, but it'll be ready for tack welding when the time comes. We have the rear window cut from the original body so that will be tacked into place along with the A pillars, then start making some patch panels to skin the new roof.

B pillars will be the last thing done on the roof and will probably be slanted.

After the roof is finished, either the new frame will get started on or the hood will be peaked.

Won't be any bondo on this car, lead filler only.

Took a few pics but neglected to grab one while it was half ass mocked to show the flow of the roof when it's skinned. Next time.

Someone asked about the rear seat. I tossed it in when the roof work was done. Headroom is hard to judge right now since the final roof will be a bit higher in the interior of the car than it sits now with the roof just cut down for exterior aesthetic. When it gets fully patched and skinned and the old material is removed I'll get a better look. That said, leg room is minimal. I never planned to use the backseat except for my kids to ride in, but seems like it might end up being a 3 seat car and the front bench seat being the only real seating area. Which is fine with me! The Thunderbird rear bench will look good either way, and no asses in the seat means it'll always look clean and sexy. The gap between the seat and driveline tunnel will largely be filled later when the floor is modified for the car to be airbagged. The rear will be 4 linked so the trunk floor will be modified also. The driveshaft tunnel will sit flush with the notch in the seat frame shown in the pic.

Nice - I like the idea of the taller driveshaft tunnel.

It'll be needed for sure, mechanically and aesthetically.

Now onto find a suitable bench seat for the front. Worst case I'll try and make or myself, but would be far easier to figure out if there's any 50s or 60s bench seats that are a close fit with minimal modification.

Any of y'all worked with the Eastwood (or other brand) lead free body solder? I've done lead before, but am looking at trying the lead free stuff. Any major differences in working it?
I have a couple of the original panel seams where the lead has come out and will get re-leaded, but I want to try the lead free stuff on a couple dents that will be worked a bit and to fill some holes that have been patched from the back.
