Zero Turn Advice - Kubota, Husqvarna, John Deere, Bad Boy?

I am looking into my first zero turn mower. The mower will be for my property only. Probably around 2 to 3 acres once I figure out where I want my yard to be. The closest dealers in my area offer Kubota, Husqvarna, John Deere & Bad Boy. I'm guessing a 48-52" deck will suit my needs pretty well. I would like to be able to tow a spreader or small cart at times. Do any of these brands stand out over the other? I was hoping to stay under $6000. There is a dealer farther away that sells Gravely, Exmark & Simplicity but I would rather stay closer to home. Thanks for any advice!

 

I bought a Husqvarna M-ZT 52 last summer. Reduced my cutting time by 2/3 compared to a rider with a 60" cut. I cut over 5 to 6 acres and a mile or more of trails. I took off the ROPS because of my young apple and cherry trees. It is considered an entry level commercial mower. There isn't a hitch on it, but I use my Quad for towing around carts and such.

I compared it to a Kubota, and it has a much better build quality to it for less money (CAD). The John Deer wasn't all that, as it had older technology and it was freakin' expensive, and we don't have those other brands here in Canada that you mentioned.

Husqvarna uses commercial grade 3400 trannies, while the competitors' price point models have 3100 residential series transmissions that come from the same factory (which is owned by Husqvarna). Husky builds their own zero turns, while others are outsourced and rebranded.

It's built like a tank. I actually enjoy bombing around and cutting the grass. No regrets on that purchase.

Husqvarna all the way. I worked for an outdoor products store while I was in school and that's what we carried. My dad has one that I got at cost for him. Don't get one from home depot or such. Go to a real dealer.

In that price point I would be looking at a BadBoy Maverick.

 

After a lot of research I bumped my price point up just a little & I've narrowed it down to a 61" Ferris is700Z or a 60" Bad Boy Maverick. The BB is a little cheaper but I'm worried about dealer & parts support 10 years down the road. Ferris has been around a long time & there are several dealers of them in the area. The Ferris I'm looking at is on back order until at least July. Can't keep them in stock.

 

I love my Z920M.

 

I personally run exmark walk behinds, and want to replace with ferris walk behind F35.
I would have no fear of a Bad Boy down the road if you have a good dealer around. I am jot a fan of most brands lower price point options.

I have this Husqvarna Articulated Rider...it's a great mower! Turns in a 12" circle and with the front mounted deck I can mow under bushes and reduce hand trimmer time. I have a snow blade for winter.

 

I disagree. I bought my Exmark because the dealer is a mile away, and I do like the mower, but comparing a certain level exmark vs a different brand they are super overpriced.
Also on a good lawn that is dry the cut is awesome, but far to many lawns leave a less than perfect cut. The deck is to tightly baffled to handle overgrowth, and hates wet grass.

 

U like the Ferris better?

 

I do not own one, but from demoing, and looking at features, yes.

Both leave a great cut in good conditions, but the Ferris is not as tightly baffled so the cut doesnt fall off as conditions drop.

I can get a 48" Ferris F35 for $5200. A Exmark TTHP will be over $7k.

 

How about a zero turn rider. Kind of curious what they go for.

My pops had a Kubota ZD-28 and it was a great mower but no suspension on it. I mowed his place which was 12 acres once a week. Added a Swisher offset behind it one year and a second one off the other side the following year so I was cutting 17 feet each pass. I could mow the whole thing in less then a 12 pack ! lol

 

Love my Kubota z122EBR. Cuts great and I can cut my yard in 1/3 of the time it took before with the Snapper. Got a local dealer and can't beat the 0 down 0% for 5 years. Kubota insurance is great too along with the 4 yr 300 hr warranty. Got it packaged with a 6x10 trailer. You can get it with the suspension seat and the LED headlights if you want it.

 

I work at ferris, fab dept. Check into snapper-pro, same exact machine, diferent paint and stickers, may have a dealer around you. We were bought by briggs and stratton a few years back but still make a quality mower. The plant is right in center of new york between syracuse and utica. Whatever you go with get a welded fabricated deck, not stamped steel. Good luck.
