Hi all. I have this baja'd out 1st gen with fiberglass fenders and Icon coilovers in front. Front feels amazing, soaks everything up! But the rear is bouncy as hell, not a whole lot of weight back there. Would love to get it to feel as nice and compliant as the front over all the PNW pot holes and washboard.

I have a full-size for my big hauling duties, so the most my Tacoma ends up hauling is a dirt bike or two, 500 lbs tops with all the gear and fuel. So my question is, what the hell do I have back there already, and what's a good solution if hauling is taken out of the equation? It looks like it has Bilstein 7100 reservoir shocks, and possibly some kind of AAL? Is that the stock position for those shocks to be mounted? Is most of the harsh bounciness coming from those leafs, or is the shock possibly a culprit as well?

Thanks for any info you guys can give me

look like aftermarket leafs and the shocks are relocated. U bolt flip kit so you cant put them back to the stock location either.

Their relocated in a way to give more articulation but really you want them in the I I configuration instead of /\ so the shock can better control the axle.

Shock location/angle has been changed (looks a little too angled IMO) But yeah for your needs adding a leaf or 2 with upgraded shocks will def. fit the bill...

Cool, thanks for the replies. Curious as to what kind of leafs are on there right now, I'm going to forward that pic to Icon and see if their rear shocks/AAL could peacefully coexist and cush up that back. I'll let y'all know what they say.

Okay yeah that lines up with what I just heard. I emailed Icon with that pic and this is what they said:

"It looks like our add a leaf already is already installed on your truck, based on your photo. The mounting of the shocks is not factory however and the angle at which they are mounted could be causing your issue. That extreme of an angle works well for axle articulation but is not the ideal geometry for overall ride quality. If you switch over to revalveable shocks in the rear, you may be able to compensate for the harshness with custom valving. I do not believe our off the shelf tuning or shock length will be ideal because of the shock angle but if you can provide us with some measurements we should be able to build a set to fit."
So that's rad. It sounds like the angle of the shock is the main reason for it handling a little rough. What do I need to measure for them? Full articulation, point-to-point?
