    Hey fellow oldsters!

Life is good here in Paradise, but sure would be better if I were retired like some of you lucky ones. Four more years for me, and I've already got my part time job lined up. Gonna be a cart boy at a golf course.

Been reading about this so called retirement. I always thought the more you made the more you got.
I may not be reading things right but the more you make the more they keep. Just what I figured. So you work to make ends meet and after $15,000 they take half plus tax your retirement too. Like i said before I'll never retire and my research seems to be spot on. Ahh such is life... Lol

Hi Carl. Keep your fingers crossed the snow from the cold front hitting north Wisconsin doesn't come down here :annoyed:

Mike, 2 years ago when I retired, I was allowed to make $14300 before they took money back at a rate of $1.00 for every $3.00 I made over $14300. When I turned 66(full retirement age) I can now make as much as I want without being penalized(so they say) but where they get you is when you file your taxes. As far as the more you make, Couldn't tell you about that. Good luck with your decision.

    Thanks Ken.
Seriously, I have 6 years to go but I was starting some research. I want to "retire" from turning wrenches at 62 and do something less nutso. I've made some big decisions on my house and vehicles and so far it looks like I'm on target. I just don't want to run the rat race till they put me in my grave.
I'll still have to work because of insurances etc but I just want that more free time to "putter" around.
Like I said its years away but nice to dream a little.

Hey there fellow sixtys. Susan, I got half of the window done before the rain drove me back inside. It's an arched window which makes each piece more or less a custom cut, so I'm doing it all in place. Using furniture tacks to hold the cord at the top. Fixing the bottom end in place is optional; they call them "zen window shades" because they move in the wind if you leave the bottom ends loose. We're starting with them loose but can attach if they drive us nuts. I looked at the window this morning and the first thing that hit me was "prison bars"! I sure hope that thought is unique to me...

Cheech -- cart boy? Do they let you race them? I'm a little jealous that you have a job lined up already. I'm recently semi-retired (working 3 days/week) and still settling into the new routine, but I can already see that I'll go stir crazy with nothing to fill my time. Plus the thought of relying solely on my savings makes me nervous!

But then my mom and dad were the same way. My dad kept working for quite a while after his official retirement, until one day he got serious about looking at the numbers and about how many good years he might have left, said "what the heck am I doing?!?" and bought a motor home. They had a great 10+ years doing trips all over the country, including two trips all the way to MQQSE land, Alaska. They finally stopped taking trips when health issues got in the way. I try to keep them in mind when I get to worrying too much about my retirement years.

6 years will be here soon enough Mike, glad your planning ahead. Have you thought about possibly going to a tech school(like Lincoln tech or UTI [2 schools down our way]). I was going to go that route, but they didn't want material handling equipment instructors just auto instructors. That will keep you active and let you stay clean:thumbsup: as well as put some money in your pocket. Just a thought.

Started to cover my 40 year old snap on boxes with bedliner. No time or desire to strip and paint like factory. Some rust but to many scrapes. The liner will cover the imperfections. Can't stand the red black. Plus its different. Lol

Evening all. I'm 62.5, looked at the money I have socked away in a IRA, 401k, annuities, still have moms place to sell with my brother, said heck with this, I'm retiring, tired of working. Phone QA, resolution rates, process improvements, poor team work by the ladies I work with, or at least some of them and with my past management experience, getting upset over their playing with their cell phones, texting AND then getting promoted!
Plus side, trying to stay busy at home, playing with my stove and lantern collection too. Will be camping and backpacking even more now. Going on yet another trip to the CA coast later this coming week with some younger friends to do some backpacking into Pt Reyes National Seashore area. One friends girl friend is giving him a surprise trip and invited some of us to go along. He's only 50. Poor guy, look at all the years he has to go. :)
Only have beans, squash/pumpkins left to plant tomorrow to be done planting my garden, planted corn today. Caught a big male gopher last night in my trap. That may have been the one that was doing recent damage in my garden. We'll see, hoping he had his territory and was keeping other males out and I had caught 3 females earlier this Spring I think.

    Morning all:
    :( :annoyed::censored::facepalm::frusty::pout::rant: missed a turkey this morning!
Two gobblers were out in the field and I misjudged the distance, little too far for the shotgun, maybe should have bought a 10 Ga.
Usually I shoot them in the woods, the open field messed me up as for judging the distance. :annoyed:

Better than being at work though! ;)

No call backs Mike! Sorry some of you have to work. Still. :) Off I go in a few hours to do one last snow camping trip, to Lassen Volcanic NP again, a little over an hour away. Maybe I can update my avatar from an earlier trip there this winter. I need to figure out why I can't use the phone jack for my moms computer at my place, it was set up at her place for high speed internet from ATT using a battery backup and router thing?. I'm sure I need to go into the computer and reset some connection but can't find that spot. Maybe will have to have the computer guy come out. Have a good day all.

    Afternoon all:
Didn't see any turkeys or even hear a single gobble, but did see a coyote come up over the field this morning that was well out of range of the shotgun. :(

Then went to another spot and one flew out just as I was approaching where I was going to sit :annoyed:, couldn't tell if it was a hen or a gobbler, then coming home I saw 3 hens cross the road.
At least I know they're out there, SOMEWHERE!!!

I don't do much hunting but it is not uncommon for me to see 20-25 turkeys in the pasture across from the house. The young ones are fun to watch as they try to keep up with the hens. The wildlife in my area is abundant these days.
