Think this is the first documentation of that kit on a first gen. Looks insane. Now you need to throw similar cash at that engine and make some big hp! IIRC you had the 3.5" 4wd Solo kit on before? How would you compare them?

Big motor? I wish, but I'm about tapped out for 2016 truck stuff.

I was running the 3.5" Total Chaos kit with coilover and bypass. It was good but I always stressed about the lower ball joints and spindles snapping. I was at about 12" of travel bumped/strapped.

I won't know how it compares until Sunday after my shakedown run.

I was thinking a turbo set up. The 3rz is known to handle a lot of boost and there is a ton of aftermarket. Super excited to hear about the results on the suspension. It's like 18" travel right? Your rig is going to be ready to compete!

I am fairly ignorant about 3RZ turbo setups but it seems like for the same amount of $$ I could drop in a junk yard LS motor. Way more torque and less concern of catastrophic engine failure.

I don't think there's really even a comparison. One is an assembled kit and the other is a complete custom job. I think you'd be on the order of 2x more expensive for an LS motor swap. Not that I've done either personally but I think the only reason to consider a v8 is if you're wanting over 500 hp. A turbo'd RZ can conservatively make an additional 100 hp while still maintaining 20 mpg and let's not forget the weight comparison. Don't mean to hijack your thread into a turbo/v8 debate!

but the turbo is quite the wear and tear on a little RZ. yea you can slap a turbo on but its just a time bomb. the LS is a proven set up and has anything and everything you could ever need for parts. junk yard LS here in NM fetch like 500 bucks at the right place. painless wire kit and some other goodies you could have a monster set up for the price for just a turbo kit. just my opinion.

I don't mind the debate at all. It's all in theory since I am pretty unlikely to ever do it. I could do a lot of other needed items to my truck for that much $$.

Another downside to an LS motor is that I would have to get a built 9" axle to handle that much power. The Tundra axle back there now could be in trouble with these 35"s as it is.

I found a thread a while ago where a guy had swapped an LS in because he blew his 3rz which was at 22 psi and he mentioned the LS stock wasn't as fast as his 3rz (obviously, 22 psi).

I think the most significant point of comparison is the foundation by which you build from. A bigger motor will have a higher ceiling. From what I've gathered the 3rz is pretty safe up to 15 psi though which, depending on your setup, can push as much as 400 whp.

I've been wanting to start my own 3rz turbo build for a couple months now so my solution to everything these days is to add a turbo.

Guess I'll have to read into that a little more. V8's in general kind of turn me off, although only in theory. I doubt anyone could frown under WOT in a v8 swapped taco!
