What is this hydro assist you speak of? I notice it on long trips where the truck has been driving for hours on end. Rarely in the city or around town

experience something like this too. But won't shift on and out of all gears when I've been driving for hours... 10,000km on the truck now and the drive feels pretty rough. Very dissatisfied at the moment and keep getting told by Toyota there are no issues

Felony assaults went down about 40% in Texas after they enacted concealed carry, same thing happened in Florida (not sure of percentage there).

My 2013 would get stuck in gear like that. Weird as hell.

This 2015 is really irritating me. Its driving worse than my 85 trans which has over 200k on it. Not really sure the original suffered bearing failure around 200k and I swapped in the original 180k trans from a 4runner i rolled.. sitting solid at 260k now and drive way better that my over 40k dolla 15,000 mile truck that has already had the clutch done.

I like it. No need to photoshop out your plate when it looks like this. I never understood why people blocked out their plate on TW???? If they are worried someone will see the plate are they also paranoid that while they are driving it around the country someone might write down the number. Maybe i'm dumb but i have never understood.

Why the hell is do we have electronic shift 4x4. Mine absolutely will not engage. I have to dick with it on/off, clutch in/ clutch out. It's bullshit. I got stuck in my damn driveway again today, had to burn the clutch with a load full of wood because I couldn't get it into low range.

Fawk Toyota for taking out the damn mechanical lever, I'm pissed.

If no one else is having problems, the only thing I can think was the dip shit at the dealer, that I told I do not need to see the features give me my keys, turned the 4x4 knob on/off back and forth with the key in the "on" position, left it in 4x4 lo, then started the truck in gear, released the clutch and stalled the truck. I informed him we're done here now I'm leaving. Maybe it messed up the shift mechanism?

leaving the truck in 4LO shouldn't be a problem. I've done that all the time on a trail. Same thing with leaving it in gear to turn off and/or starting it in gear while 4x4 is engage. Should be zero problem as long as the clutch pedal is pushed in.

But yeah, if some idiot turned the switch a couple times before the truck could pop it in or out, it might have fucked something up. However...it probably didn't drop in to 4L0 when he did that, as you need to be in neutral with clutch out IIRC.

Did you lower the leather boot on yours to expose more of the shifter rod ?

Just turned 9,000 miles on my 2016 MT Sport - A couple things to pass on -
Re. Sticky Transmission issue, not wanting to come out of gear after a long run - Toyota knows all about this. They have a quick fix that resolved my issue completely and (apparently) a long term one that's in the works. Tell your dealer to talk with Toyota about it if they play stupid.
Re. The placement of reverse - I agree with those that find it just a bit too easy to engage. My 2010 Camry has a 6 speed manual and it has a 'pull-ring' to get into reverse. Toyota (or someone) should offer this in the Tacoma.
Re. Engine Power - There is plenty of it...You just have to understand that it's mainly above 3500 RPM. Manual transmissions are designed for those that wish to manage the process. Unlike automatics for those that are too lazy or don''t want to learn.
Re. The shortage of manuals in your area - Apparently more smart people in your region ?
Bottom line - This is my 5th Toyota PU and clearly the best - I have NO regrets

You're talking about steering? What would a hydro assist system have to do with these manual transmission?

I have not had the sticky gear issue but I am curious what the quick fix was for yours. Might be good to know in case mine develops this over time.

I thought the brakes and the clutch were both on the hydro assist system like the older gen, on electrical system, but this is a feature on the off-road model. I thought the sport model had a different system to engage clutch compared to the off-road model. Isnt the power steering connected to the belt?

The clutch is a regular old hydraulic clutch system, no boost of any kind. It is a shittyput together one but simple enough.

Now the brakes do have an electronic voost/assist and a standard boster like every other car/truck. In the offroad you can feel it if you push the pedal a bit with the key off and then turn the key on it will put some pressure in the system that younwill feel in the pedal.

Steering is nothing abnormal or different its just a regular belt driven pump and a hydraulic rack and pinion.

I have never had a sport model but both my off roads and the pro have the electronic assist on brakes. I don't believe my old sr5 did. And none of the trucks older than a 2nd gen did.
