I see lots of posts for aftermarket exhaust systems...how about the one offered by TRD for the 2006 V6 Tacoma???

I think it's all about the performance and the price on the other brands.

yesterday i was at the toyota dealer getting my oil changed. I priced the trd exhaust at $495.00. started talking to another tacoma owner. He had the magnaflow. Sounded great. I got the card from the exhaust shop that did his work. Went there, and within 30 mins had a magnaflow exhaust installed for $211.00. I love it. I can feel the difference. Now these guys left the original tubing, and welded in the new mufller and i got to choose a tip. Most of these aftermarket kits include the new tubing,Hence the higher price.

Do NOT! get the TRD Exhaust like I did because it is Not a True Performance Exhaust/Muffler. It is a Sport Muffler built/made for sound and Yes I saw it for myself after the Fact. I changed it out to a MagnaFlow Stainless Straight Through Muffer so in other words I paid for an Expensive TRD Exhaust Tip and Pipes! My suggestion would be just change out your Muffler to either a MagnaFlow or FlowMaster, same Performance but FlowMaster Resonates more sound that could be heard from inside the Cab. Either way far better than the TRD Fakehaust!

I was hopeing to find a muffler system that would give off a nice tuned sound, like an Infiniti G-35 or Nissan 350Z...those sound awsome / for 6 cylinders

You are correct! my wife bought me the TRD intake and exhaust( b/day thing). The intake is nice but I think the exhaust was awaste of good money! THe TRD exhaust is nothing more than stock exhaust with a smaller muffler! Again what a waste of money$$$$$$$$.

The question is: does the TRD muffler have less restrictions that the standard muffler ??? If it does than it allows greater exhaust flow and thus makes it a higher performance exhaust.

I keep hearing some people say that the TRD exhaust is not a performance muffler, do they have any tests showing that or is it just their "butt-dyno" ???

What I was saying was that after I saw the exhaust that they the dealer installed and spoke with the service manager at the dealership. He said that the TRD exhaust was the same exhaust pipe with a performance muffler ( less air flow restrictions) and a TRD end pipe. And he said that I sould not worry about my warranty, because it was a Toyota TRD part installed. But he did say that I should keep my original part. which I was any way. And again he said that I need not to worry about my warranty.

Agreed that it is the same size pipe as the original. You will also notice that these people that advicate Flowmaster or Magnaflow are also using the same existing pipe, just new mufflers. As a result I wonder what BigGeeDee67 means by the statement of "It is a Sport Muffler built/made for sound and Yes I saw it for myself after the Fact." when you are using the same pipes, but just a less restrictive muffler just like the TRD set ???

You also have to remember that if you go with the TRD, it's all stainless (no rust) versus a Magnaflow or Flowmaster where only the muffler may be stainless, but the rest of the pipe is aluminized steel (rust).

As they say "you get what you pay for".

I've got the URD 3" exhaust on mine and love the sound.

If you're looking for just a muffler though, my vote goes to magnaflow over a flowmaster. I wouldn't really expect any significant power gains out of just an exahust though unless you get tuning software.

I have the TRD exhaust, but I only paid $225 for it cause I work at toyota, so I get employee discount on all TRD and Toyota parts. I think it sounds good, but if you are looking for performance go with Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Yeah I believe BigGeeDee67 is right. Spintech is another exhaust that sounds good.
And if you like the loud rice burner sound go with Borla.

Here's a little tip. When getting an aftermarket muffler welded in on the original pipes. Have the guy put a little extension behind the back pipe, otherwise the back pipe gets pulled forward bringing the tailpipe close to your mudflap and overfender, melting it. I just found out my overfender is melting due to the heat of my tailpipe after having a magnaflow welded into the original pipes. this will not be covered under warranty since i had it modified without toyota parts. Not melted too bad . If i dont change the routing of the tailpipe soon. It will be.

I just put a MagnaFlow catback stainless muffler and pipe on my 07 V6 tacoma. I am old and the neighbours already complained. I got it for $500 CAD. It is a full stainless catback 2.5" in 3.0" out, with 30km on it. I still have the box and warrenty. I am now looking for the flowmaster catback. If you could get one stainless or galvanized I would trade. The MagnaFlow is just a bit too loud.

I had a magnaflow muffler installed using the stock pipes, and just put a crome tip on the end, it sounds good and it felt like I got a little more power, but not sure. It sounds great though, it isn't too loud in the cab but it has a nice low resonating sound. I had it welded in place so I don't have any leak issues at the connection points.
