You called my silly for not wanting to support Constellation Brands which bought Ballast Point.

You support St Archer because skateboarders turned a quick buck? That's hilarious. You've been marketed.

When did I say that? Lol I said I started drinking it because of who started the company. That was before they sold it. I'm not gonna stop drinking it because they made some money off a deal.

You are buying the Authentic California Lifestyle. LOL

The more I know about St Archer the lamer it gets.

    http://www.westcoastersd.com/2012/09/14/meet-saint-archer-brewery/#respond

After years of working as a talent manager and documentary film maker, Landan has made many friends in the action sports industry. “I thought, ‘What if I could get all of my friends, who are the best skaters, snowboarders, surfers, artists, and musicians in the world, to come and own this brand and brewery with me?’ It would be lights out.”

He continues, “There’s been a lot that’s changed with Saint Archer in the last two years. What hasn’t changed is that it’s going to be a world class brewery first and foremost. Second, it’s going to be a California lifestyle brand. Why not bring together the action sports community as a platform for branding? While we’re going to be selling beer, we also will be selling the authentic California lifestyle.”

The most notable element of this new brewery is their marketing ability. Saint Archer’s Art Director isDave Lively, a talented San Diego-based graphic designer/artist who has earned an impressive portfolio of clients. Combine Lively’s solid design and Saint Archer’s famous 21 limited partners with their ~5 million social media followers, and that’s a lot of promotional power. Saint Archer’s website will be live in three weeks. “We are trying to open up the eyes of some people who maybe aren’t your regular craft beer drinker.”

Happy weekend fellow suds lovers. My first Avery IPA. Head that disapates pretty quickly and lace remains. Pours an orange yellow color. First impression is citrus. Orange peel and grapefruit maybe. Maybe a little more citrus than I prefer but would buy again. 6.5 % ABV. Sorry about the fuzzy picture.

    Cheers

I love having the matching glass with the beer. It's almost impossible to get served a plain glass in Germany, it's always in a correctly labeled glass.

My son-in-law works for Duvel USA. Duvel was an original investor (and still is) in Ommegang brewery in NY. A couple of years ago they acquired Boulevard Brewery and last year they acquired Firestone Walker. I'm not gonna stop drinking their beer just because they are a conglomerate. We're talking some good beers here!(especially when I get free samples from time to time)

Oops, almost forgot, they also own Achouffe in Belgium.

Duvel has done a great job with Ommegang, Boulevard, and Firestone. They are not included. They have maintained the quality of the beer brands they have acquired, and in many instances improved the quality.

This is more of a critique of the big breweries like AB-Inbev that acquire smaller craft breweries, then ultimately cut quality to save on costs and use their large portfolio of beer brands to push out small breweries from restaurants, liquor stores, supermarkets, ect…. It's a tactic they've been employing for a while (in various ways) and a lot of people feel it's a shady way to do business because it puts the smaller guy and an extreme disadvantage.

Like I said above, drink whatever makes you happy. I'm not here to judge. The only reason I posted the article was because there were some questions a few pages ago about why it's 'better' to support small craft breweries versus those craft breweries that have been bought out by big breweries. I thought the article I posted did a good job of explaining the issue.

Personally, I support the craft brands because I like a lot of different beer choices, the craft breweries in my area create A LOT of job that significantly contribute to the local economy, and the money I spend on local craft beers are more likely to stay in the local economy rather than being exported to some oversees tax shelter.

I'm not going to say and it doesn't really matter anyways because I'm not spokesman for my employer. I'm just expressing my personal opinion and saying who I work for will just make my employer and I an easy target for those who disagree. But I feel like I do have an inside perspective of the industry since I have worked in it for a while and have seen shady tactics used by some of the big breweries…..so I thought I'd share.

We drink a lot of Shiner Bock around here and occasionally I like to drink Revolter Blood n honey. I prefer beer with a IBU level of 30 or less. I'm not really into the whole Hoppy ass beer but I had a few that was ok. I noticed lately that craft beer is getting more popular around here in DFW.

So Green Flash (big guy) bought Alpine (little guy) and you still drink Alpine? Do you think the quality is the same now that that they are brewing big batches of Alpine? When Mike Hinkley finally gets an offer from a big brewer and sells will you still support them? The world of craft beer will continue to evolve. What has happened so far is just the beginning. If a small guy that makes insanely good beer gets a huge offer, they are going to take it....it's the American dream. You literally can't grow without capital. You can't get chain distribution unless you can guarantee that you can fill the pipeline.....which takes big $ for ingredients, brewing equipment, holding tanks, bottling and racking equipment ect...then you need have a distributor that can guarantee delivery and merchandising. A small brewer that is passionate about brewing and not in it for $ can stay small, make great beer and struggle to make ends meet. From what I have seen most want to make great beer, have fun doing it and if there is a big payday at the end of it they will take it!
