That is really good. The car is really good and and never had a problem even with it being a first year model. It is really surprising at all the things it can do in stock form.

Also my truck for a manual is getting better than I thought it would. Starting to climb to an average of 21.9 per tank calculated at fuel up. Driving habits make the difference. I would like to get a smaller width tire down to a 245. Does anyone have a manual with 245 70 16?

 

Average about 21mpg. Towing my camper is around 16.5 mpg.

Though up until recently all my driving has been stop and go and stop and go in town, start stop, etc, that mileage I've showed steady 18mpg, more lately has been commutes of 25 to 3o miles, and seeing an established 23mpg.

 

Just finished a 3500 mile trip, from north Ga to Colorado Springs, Co to south central Fl and back to north Ga. Truck says I averaged 19 mpg. The old fashion way says I averaged 20.5 mpg. 20-30 % of trip was with heavy head and cross winds. I drove 5 over the posted speed limit. '16 DCSB TRD OR 4x4 V6.

 

I, believe, anytime spent over 65 +/- MPH will come with paying a premium. 50 - 55 is the sweet spot. Not too many drive that slow though. .

 

Fun fact Ga to Colorado Springs is exactly 24 hr drive. That was fun did it once.

 

Just added fuelly to my autosig. Best MPG to date is 18.8 which was mostly highway (70-80mph) with myself and 2 passengers. DCSB 4x4 with 6 speed manual -- Stock wheels and tires with Snugtop Rebel, Urban Armor Rock Steps, and Weathertech mud flaps. Less than 1000 miles on it, so I hope it gets better. I am beginning to doubt it will. Seems like 18-19mpg for me.

 

I'd be skeptical to see better mileage at 70-80 MPH. You'll see a linear relation between mileage and speed as you back it off.

 

the best mileage isn't going to be a certain MPH....You'll get better mileage traveling at whatever speed gets you the lowest RPM....so in 6th gear, i think 60mph is going to get you better mph than 70-80...also depends on hills etc.

 

Yeah. I'll play with it. I'm in Texas, so speed limits are pretty high. I want to do a tank at 55-60 soon and see what happens. Seems like 65mph holds pretty steady around 20mpg. It's a little better than I'm used to. Last 2 trucks were Silverado 1500's, and had a '90 Toyota 4x4 before that. Fuel savings should be at least enough to offset the increase in my insurance premiums, which went up $24/mo.

 

I drive a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB v6 Manual Towing and I get 21-22 average to/from work (10-15 mi). I love the level of control a manual transmission gives. I'm always trying to increase my average MPG tank to tank.
I haven't hauled anything, towed anything, or gone on any long trips yet. So all I have for now to report on is the to/from work mileage.

 

Actually, speed DOES play a direct relation in aerodynamic performance. The faster the vehicle goes, the greater both parasitic AND induced drag become, and that requires more power. You might be able to keep your RPMS low, but torque requirements are high, so demand on engine performance goes up. The induced drag concept is why Toyota is playing with little winglets etc. like on the mirrors, and the lower panel on the rear fender. To break the vortices (hence drag) which is created at faster speeds.
(It's also why the introduction of the air dam under the nose. But gains are nominal, so I believe most people end up removing them for looks and ground clearance.
Note also, as you continue to put on lift kits, mileage suffers, all because of aerodynamic drag.
Some of you might remember back in the 1970s , during the oil embargo and gas line days, when the Fed made the national maximum speed limit 55 MPH.
That was why. Diesel drivers contested it because it didn't work so well for them. But us gas burners, we'll it did. But the gas supplies eased, and there was so much public revolt, the 55 Limit was ended.
If a driver wants the BEST mileage, go 50-60, and be gentle on the accelerator . It's been proven.

 

14.4 on my fill-up. In the beginning I was getting 18-20 but I am always running on ECT power now. Meh

 

My gas mileage has dropped off from 19.1 to high 18s because ive lost patience with the lack of power in low end and driving like senile granny is getting old.

 

Good points.....that's what my "etc" was for. In addition, 55 seems to be where manufacturers have optimized their vehicles. At that point, cars seem to shift into higher gears, settling into lower RPM....While speed is related, like you said it is the demand on the engine that is key. You could drop down to 4th gear and drive at 55 on the freeway, but the engine would be up at 4500 RPM and your gas milage would be in the shitter. Right? YMMV.

I understand folks being pissy about lack of power, granny style driving, honest I do. But the truck has all driving styles covered. Stuff yer foot in it, especially using ECT, and the truck has it. Ya just have to pay for it
I'm used to operating vehicles with lots of umph..... at 55-65GPH. (Gallons per Hour.)

 

I think that is exactly right. I have been driving it with the speed of traffic. If you drive it in this manner without modifying tire size, etc. I believe you should expect to see about 17-18mpg.

For the record, the truck has ample power and I love it. I plan to put 250K miles on it.

 

When I get stuck with a Nissan Versa rental car for a business trip I expect to have to floor it to get the wheels turning and up to highway speed merging with traffic. I DO NOT expect to have to do this with a brand new $39,000 mid size truck with largest power plant available in configurations offered.

 

Scottsdale I see. Got friends there too. Coming for a couple Diamondbacks games in August, the chilly time of the year, what??? 122-125F? Lol

Dude, you hate this truck. I honestly don't think I've ever seen you post anything positive. With demand being as high as it is, why not just sell it and buy something you like?

For the record, mine has plenty of balls and I never take it over 3000rpm.
