I am curious to see what people really think of their V6 automatics on this forum. I have seen some people off about how bad the transmission is but some people I have talked to say the transmission is fine and that the issues are overblown.

Mine's fine, but you have to take the time to learn how to drive it. It IS different, as are all new vehicles because of the constant MPG hassle.

I know, Change is a bitch.

This isn't going to be very helpful unless you can cross reference it with people that have had low fluid issues, know the current mileage range, etc.

    so, normal roads.

damn dude, that's crazy the way it bounces around like that. I've
seen others talk about it when in cruise and used the shit out of it a few times on
many long drives and it performs just like my 2011 trd sport - no issues.

Have you had it in the shop or spoken to anyone?

that's what most have said as well. I got lucky on that one I guess but
I'd take a flaky cruise control over feeling like there's a giant vibrator under
    my floor mat. :D

no vibration on mine, just revs up and down on cruise when there is a small incline. I wonder if that is normal or a problem than needs to be addressed?

Not sure a transmission flash can fix any of this. The underline issue is lack of low-end power. 6 speeds + anemic engine = lots of shifting. The manual is better equipped to hold a gear because it has a the 4.3 gears in the rear and revs higher at highway speeds.

Mine hunts for gears weather I use the cruise or not , however it's easier to prove that it's not me trying to make it look worse than it is by having the cruise set

My view of this transmission issue is as follows: I am not too happy with this transmission/engine combo. but I trust in the engineering dept. at Toyota. However, Toyota is keeping very tight lips on this issue. In my opinion .... to me, it means one of three things (1) that Toyota thinks the issue will eventually go away (2) the Transmission/engine combo is working as planned, or (3) they are diligently working on a fix and not making it known, as to not effect sales. I am going to guess that it is (2) that its working as planned .... and I will keep in mind that all this electronic engineering technology is new to me. Even with all the issues , I still get great gas mileage. Between 20 and 24 MPG, which is pretty good for a V6 truck. AND, to me the low tranny fluid issue is the dealers fault ... its part of the pre delivery inspection and I think as the Tacomas come down the assembly line they add the same volume of fluid to all trannys and let the dealers top off the fluid before delivery.
