My 2016 is horrible with road and wind noise and the 110 db of noise in the cab is the truth.
The cab vents that stay open and the door gaskets that leak air and whistle are the issues.

I took the truck back in again to the dealer.

Toyota will find out the price of the truck is peanuts compared to the cost to them if they give the truck back unrepaired. They have no repair so I don't expect it back.
You must wear ear plugs when driving the truck at hiway speeds.

Yes I have an attorney from Texas who also does Oregon where I live.

Guy, I have to agree with most here, 110db HAS to be incorrect! I have calibrated my home theater with a Radio Shak spl meter and 110db is ridiculously LOUD! I believe you stated you were using the meter on your iPhone...correct? If so, it must be set on the wrong scale or it's totally wrong. If you're planning on forcing the issue with Toyota I suggest you find another instrument to take your measurements.

I too have road noise which I feel is too much, when I get a chance I'll take some readings in my truck with my handy dandy spl meter. At what MPH(s) did you record?

I am not being a contrarian for the hell of it, but DAMN 110db is LOUD...DAMN LOUD!!! If by chance your readings are correct, I sincerely apologize!

Hey Momma never taught you any manners?

For your information MY TRUCK DOES have 110 db of noise and MY DEALER AGREED TODAY THAT THERE IS NO FIX! So I don't expect it back. If they return it unfixed. Toyota will be making a huge error.
    All facts asshole!

If you point the mic on the bottom on the phone right at the vents and door gaskets. About 6 inches away
it says 110 db while doing 70 mph this was after TOYOTA said no fix but the dealer took the rear carpet and seat out and 1/2 inch foam
taped over my open cab vents.

110 db is loud DAM right it is. I wear ear plugs IN THE TRUCK when I do over 40mph.

I plugged the vents with insulation and then the wind noise from the gaskets is exposed.

Yes I agree My 2011 I bought new and traded for this was great. This 2106 access has issues.
So does the head in the sand people in TOYOTA customer service they are awful.

TOYOTA wrote me 2 letters said the dealer said my truck was normal but the same dealer I was working with ( 3 people) told me it was bad and knows it was awful.
They are lucky I don't spend 10 k on a full page ad in the paper for week.

TOYOTA WILL LIE TO SUIT THEMSELVES! Never another!

Yes sounds like open windows in the back. This is the door gaskets.
The roaring road noise is the vents. The only fix for them is to plug them with insulation.
    Then it gets wet..
I worked on this truck with paper strips with door closed checking all door seals..
With friend who worked at FORD AND GM.

Some Parts of all 4 door gaskets don't seal. This an access cab

I don't disagree that the cab could have better insulation/design to mitigate the volume that is produced during travel. I hear some noises I didn't normally hear in other vehicles... I work in sound design, and it's theoretically impossible to have an in vehicle volume of 110dba in a Tacoma. The truck based upon simple math and making some assumptions as to the drag would have to be traveling at 194mph to come anywhere close to that volume in cab.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel

That link is also very helpful. As one other member mentioned, before fighting with Toyota about volumes, your proof needs to be accurate. Taking 110dba to them will only get you ignored, but taking 74dba, or something similar, is reasonable. As an example, 100dba is 10,000,000 times louder than 90dba. It's logarithmic. Regardless, if you feel there is an issue, you're doing the right thing and bringing it to their attention, just don't make outlandish claims.

Your iPhone is far from a professional grade piece of equipment, it's great for reference, but there could be a hundred reasons it would should 110dba. Lack of calibration, values being amplified, or proximity to noise causing interference.

    Good luck!

OK, now I see the problem!! Sound
is ALWAYS louder the closer you get to the source. This is due to the fact that sound waves have more energy at the source vs away from the source. It's just like going to a night club and standing too close to the speakers, it's deafening, but the farther you move away the more tolerable it is.

The most accurate position(s) for your measurements would be one or all of the following... the driver's seat, the passenger seat, left rear, middle rear, and right rear. Then it becomes subjective on what is acceptable and Toyota will have the final say which is unfortunate for you and all of us.

By the way, the service technician you rode with is "dick dumb"! As for me...I work in a lab...nuclear to be exact. I know how to collect accurate, useful data and interpret said data.

Road noise is the biggest con of this truck! I'm always checking to make sure a window is not open.

I had bad road noise... I sealed around the rear vents (really sloppy install)... and then sprayed on some sound deadening stuff all over the rear of the cab. Made a huge difference... I also added some open celled foam covers on those vents... helped even more, but still allows the air to escape, when closing doors, as designed....

I'm pretty happy with the outcome now..... even though I travel with the rear seats down all the time (they will hide a lot of noise when UP)..!!

My door seals seem to be OK...

    Good luck OP

I've read about some of the repairs and fixes on here, but haven't tried any.

Interesting thread, as this road noise issue is the only issue for me. As with so many other issues mentioned on this forum (tranny shift delay, vibration at certain rmps) which I dont have, its notable that some people have these issues and some do not. We all have the same truck with the same parts. Sounds like seemingly slight differences in manufacturing/assembly may be a point of issue here.

As I tried all the rear cab vent remedies (block off vents, insulate back wall, ET), it leads me to believe that my particular issues are with the door gaskets, as OP mentioned they are not glued in place but held with snaps every 4-5" or so.

I am temped to glue them all securely in place to see if it helps, but am hesitant to make what may be a pretty permanent (hard to un-do) attempt that may not help at all. Especially if there is a better fix.
If anyone has suggestions, or has tried something else, please let me know.

My 2013 SR5 regular cab was quieter even with DuraTracs..:(

110db my ass! This dude has no real idea how loud that is. 2 x 12" kicker subs (1800W mono block amp) and 2 x 200W kicker 6x9's and 2 more 150W kicker speakers (800x4 watts amp) in the rear doors barely pushed 120db.

I would not trust the iPhone with a db reading.....

The road noise on mine is the door gaskets and the cab vents.
About 50/50 50 percent door gaskets and 50 percent the vents.
Either one becomes more apparent when you plug the vents or tape the doors off.

I packed my vents with insulation and knocked the noise down but then it becomes ineffective when it gets wet.

The cab vents are 2 1/4 inch by 12 inch and you can see the ground due to the flaps hanging open.
The combo of the loose door gaskets and open cab vents shows 110 db when driving 70 mph.
Showed 113db till they foamed it so it didn't do much.

Is it exactly 110 DB's we will see if and when if comes back.
All I know is 50 miles is too far with out a lot of ear discomfort. I carry ear plugs to wear while driving it.
If they return the truck back to me it is going in for professionals to accurately measure the noise.

Honestly it is so bad I think there is a chance they may refund on the truck or do something.
    Really hard to say otherwise.
The dealer said he would glue all the door gaskets on but that doesn't fix the vents which there is no fix.
Except the hilly billy stuffing with insulation.

Even if the I phone is off or not, the fact that your ears hurts and your need ear plugs is enough proof.
Then the dealer has yanked the interior already once and added foam.
Then if it does happen to measure high if I get it back.
It may be shown they are not acting in good faith.
The 3 contacts at the dealer drove it and know how bad it is and acknowledged it to me on several occasions and Toyota has turned around and denied there is an issue so far.
    In 2 letters
But this a new rep is looking this time.

Who is supposed to be taking the truck for a few days to live with it.

Don't want a fight just want the truck gone and my money back at this point

My truck is good otherwise too. No tranny issues runs pretty good. I like it EXCEPT the dam road noise.

What was your previous vehicle? Just curious. For the record I know what 110db + sounds like. Why not just let your iPhone touch the door and take a reading, I'm sure you can get an even better reading for your case. :deadhorse:
