O i totally agree racing incident. But team talk wise one driver taking out another is a no no and in that case with Nico not being in control of his own car via not being in the correct mode and trying to adjust it at the end of the turn had a big play in things.

I doubt we will hear anything more from either driver about it though. Im sure part of the meeting they had during the race was on how to handle it and what they could and could not say. Kind of got that feeling at least when one of the head guys (i forget which one) came out and wouldnt put blame on either driver even when asked a couple times.

Rosberg jigged left exiting turn 2, to which Hamilton -- who the whole time had better speed, plenty of speed to be first at the next turn -- responded by going inside. My jaw dropped as I watched Rosberg run him all the way off the road. I'm sure Hamilton was as shocked as I was.

    But that's OK.

Brilliant race by a host of others, fabulous tactical duel between Red Bull and Ferrari, great win by Verstappen. Very very exciting!

Didn't there used to be a rule requiring the blocking driver to leave at least a car width for the overtaking car? Rosberg took Ham to the grass.

I think it was a racing incident, an aggressive pass by Ham, and aggressive blocking by Rosberg. A bit aggressive by both considering they were both fighting their teammate.

I will say that I'm happy both Mercs went out, I'm not a fan of either Rosberg or Hamilton. I was on the edge of my seat the whole race watching the battle between Ferrari and Redbull. I was delighted to see Verstappen win and I hope to see many more. I was sad to see that Alonso didn't get to finish but congrats to Sainz who drove well for the team and his home GP.

That only applies if the car passing is deemed to be sufficiently along side the car in front . As I said earlier , Rosberg is already moving to the inside to cover it before Hamilton pops out of the slipstream and when he does there is a closing wedge of road left .

    Its a 50/50 incident

For future reference, "significantly alongside" is any part of the front wing up to the rear wheels of the front car. Hamilton was definitely significantly alongside according to the regulations.

It was still a racing incident (even as a Hamilton fan), but that is the way the rule is written.

"Technically, Rosberg had breached article 27.7 of the sporting regulations, which requires the leading driver to leave room if there is a "significant proportion of the car attempting to pass alongside".

And, technically, one view could be that Hamilton had caused a collision, which is also against the rules. Another TV still, taken shortly before the one we have already mentioned, showed Hamilton still clearly behind and Rosberg angling steeply to the inside - at which point many might have backed out of it.

But the stewards decided not to penalise either driver, a conclusion based on the speed at which circumstances unfolded.

Rosberg "defended his position, as is his right," they said. Hamilton "had a portion of his front wing inside [Rosberg] fractions of a second prior to having to leave the track to avoid an initial collision, which may have led him to believe he had the right to space on the right". "

"Once on the grass, [Hamilton] was no longer in control of the situation."

The conclusion was that Rosberg "had the right" to do what he did and Hamilton's "attempt to overtake was reasonable". "

The only time Hamilton was along the side, was when he was MOWING the grass next to him!

I agree! I still swear I saw Rosberg move twice to the right. not 2 clear moves, but 2 joined together moves. Just my opinion.

It doesn't really matter to me what you think you saw or didn't see, I am just quoting the FIA regulation regarding being alongside.

    Pretty much this ^

If there was someone to blame for the crash , the stewards would have ruled that way .
