What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

Almost flat is how they are designed from the factory. The AAL will lift rear when added to the factory pack. It a slightly less expensive option. But you can't beat the increased load capacity with the Dakars plus the lift. You can factor in a set of Dakars instead of the AAL on the Toytec site with any suspension combination.

So everyone is saying for the 2016 DCSB TRD-OR, in order to clear 285/75/16 you want atleast a 3inch lift upfront..

My question is, is it +3 inch lift from factory needed (so its already got the additional 1" from factory higher than the older models so a full 3 inch lift + the already lifted 1")

OR

is it +2 inch lift on top of the already 1" from factory needed so that would equal a total of 3" total needed?

Im just confused if i need to get a kit capable of +3 inch lift from my stock 2016 or if I need a +2 inch lift to get what I want.

I also know it depends on wheel and tires so, right now I'm leaning towards 285/75/16 Duratracs which i know are a little more aggressive then other A/Ts. I don't mind doing some plastic trim but I don't want to have to do a CMC.

Now, if the Duratracs are too aggressive and I will/may need a CMC I am ok with getting a less aggressive tread pattern and was thinking maybe the Toyo Open Country AT2s.

The Wheels I have are 16x8 4.5BS.

I am trying to decide (once i figure out how much lift i need +3 inch or +2 inch from factory) between then 5100 paired with 887 OR 888 with the EXT RCD bilstein rears + Dakar leaf pack. OR just going with the full OME kit + dakar leaf pack over the hybrid bilstein/ome.

Also most likely adding the LR UCAs to help with alignment.

I do not plan to add armor other than sliders in the near future so thats why I've opted between 887 or 888 over the 886 coils.

I do mainly city/highway and offroading maybe 2-3 times a month depending how much time i have to go fishing/hunting, the trails are not anything crazy as it is my DD I wont be going ham out there.

I know its a lot of questions in one post but I'm looking for your advice thanks in advance for what you can provide.

Just got my new whip last month, and I've got intentions of a mild lift to clear 33" rubba. This site is fantastic. Thanks in advance for all those who share their knowledge here on TW.
Here is my new project. After glaring til my eyes bled at 116 pages of info on this thread, I am leaning toward the Boss 2.0 kit w/ 2" leaf in rear, (possibly + 1" Body lift to avoid trimming) needs to clear 285's (33's). Sounds like it's a crap shoot weather rubbing will occur or not with most of these mild lifts.

 

The suspension only lifts will only net you up to 2 additional inches of lift. For a total of 3"s. There are a couple of kits out there that will net you a total of 4"s bit then you are maxing out the suspension for down travel which can damage parts.

From what I I have read on here you just need the 3" suspension lift to clear 285's and maybe a lititle plastic trimming depending on your wheel combo. You will definitely want UCA'S with 3"s of lift.

66-5002. I hardly go off road and don't use for heavy hauling. I wanted a higher stance and more tire clearance. Dealer install w/ alignment $890.

 

Hey guys hope you can help me out. I have a 2016 DCLB TRD offroad arriving in a week. I purchased a 2016 OME 2 inch lift in the medium load. I want to get the 255/80/17 Cooper STT MAXX's with method NV wheels. Prior to the lift can they fit? After the lift should I have any issues?

 

Don't think they will prior to the lift, those are 33" tall

 

Yeah just under at 32.8. People have been saying its not the height of the tire but more the width, which these are skinnier so should fit better.

 

Just got done with the front . 887 coils/ome shocks with trim packer on driver side. Light racing ucas.

Before: measured 35" ground to fender in front. Rear was 36"


Front installed: front is at 37 3/8" right after the lift

 

So I'd say 887s give 2" once settled

 

I've got an OME kit with 887s and Dakar pack on the way for my DCLB. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Does anybody know if bolster 5100s for a '15 will work on a '16 ?

 

anyone done the 6" lift and 33x12.50's yet on a TRD OR DCLB? if so what kit did you buy and how much did you spend. also what is a good estimate on how much cost to install is. I can do it i'm just lazy and if it's reasonable i'll let someone do it but if not then a day in my shop will get it done.

 

Anyone have their lift installed through the dealer? I was just quoted over $4k for an Icon Stage 2 install. Don't remember the exact amount as I appeared to have stopped listening by that point. It seemed excessive for a $2k lift. I was thinking in the $2500 - $2600 range. Is the $4k reasonable and I'm just getting my panties in a wad over the normal cost of doing business?

 

Not reasonable at all. That's a total rip off. It takes about 2 hours to install, and then the alignment. I would say $800 at the very most. That said, I've never paid a shot to do an install because I've always done the work myself.

 

Bilsteins front and back with one 885 and toytec aal. What would be the pros and cons of this setup on my 3rd gen OR?

 

It's hard to say since neither OME nor Bilstein suggest putting their products together. OME has released a spring chart for the 2016 trucks but that based on pairing their suggested spring with an OME Nitrocharger shock. There are plenty who have posted in this thread that have done just what you are suggesting for the front. So far I have not heard of any issues. But again it is not suggested by the manufacturer's themselves.

 

I am assuming you are suggesting the billies set at zero with 887's?
