It's a Wildernest and they quit making them in 99 I think. I paid $1500 for it which I feel is a lot but there are few around that are still in good shape and finding parts is impossible. Your best bet is to find one on craigslist somewhere. Looks like you are in California so I'd imagine one should pop up sooner or later. There is a similar topper that flips over the cap called Flip-Pac and I believe they are still making them and a new company just came out with something similar that flips out over the tailgate but I can't think of there name right now. If I remember I'll let you know.

 

Made a short trip to Utah on Monday! Set up camp Monday night near the Dewey Bridge.


This was my first time actually using the Wildernest. Thing is awesome! Stayed completely dry in the rain and survived the wind.

Ran Top of the World on Tuesday morning.


Ran into Moab in the afternoon to get some supplies and decided to run Onion springs on the way back. Fun trail to splash through the water!

Almost finished with my locker compressor install! Just waiting on a switch and a quick connect to plug the other port just incase my other compressor fails. Hopefully I wired everything right....

Seriously get on that! It's so vulnerable on these trucks haha right after Jay busted his shit I bought mine.

 

I know lol I've gently caressed it more than a few times. I'm still unsure if I want to build one or just buy one. If you had to guess how heavy is the skid row skid plate?

 

When I got it it probably was 20-30 lbs now it's even more with all the beef I added. Honestly it might be easier to make it yourself, both Bud Built and Skid Row needs extra bracing to support the weight of the truck. Building it bud built style is probably easiest with a new cross member in the rear like box rocket did. That way no need to whiskey bend, just run a straight sheet crossmember to crossmember. I would still box in around the t-case on the sheet too.

 

If I build my own I'd be adding a crossmember and would probably still whiskey bend the sides for some extra strength. I'm trying to keep it as light as possible. The truck really struggles going over mountain passes.

 

V8 swap, problem solved. But I think that will be the lightest solution. Mine's a pig now. That will be relatively easy to bend back too if it does get bent up.

 

I wish lol. If this motor ever does go I'm not sure what I'll do. Diesel would be nice but that means SAS too and a lot of money I don't have lol.
