Yeah that's a bit excessive. I was quoted $700 at my local dealer and that was for the install, alignment, and mount and balance for wheels and tires. I ended up doing it myself and bought the tools with the money saved and still came out ahead.

I have personally installed this kit for another member, and he hasn't had a single issue. Additionally, this set up has been used for years with the 2nd gen trucks as well, so I think it's safe to say that you'll be just fine, but I would go with 887's. Great kit though and unless you are completely beating the shit out of the truck, should provide you with years of trouble free service

Yes the $4k+ was installed. I think I'll punt and wait for a GB. Then I'll see if I can get my body shop guy to do it for a reasonable amount or look at doing it myself.

Sweet. It may be a spell before I can generate the cash. I was hoping to get it wrapped into the loan but not at a $2k premium. i also lack the space as my man cave aka garage is stuffs with camping and sports gear as well as a reloading bench. But I've got a buddy with the space and tools that might work out for the DIY project. As I build the cash I'll study the truck and get back with you when it is time.

    Thanks again.

You offering him a warranty on it? Neither manufacturer will warranty the parts when combined. If a shop installs it they MIGHT warranty it but then you are paying for install.

I know you're pretty hung up on this, as you've posted about "manufacturer recommendations" at least a dozen times. The combination of OME coils and 5100's is by no means a new concept, as I mentioned previously, it's been a very popular combination for years. Could something go wrong? sure, just like with every part. But it wouldn't be hard to get a warranty replacement for the failed part.

For the record, I have installed both the 5100's with the toytec coils and the 5100's with the 887's. My personal preference is the toytec coils, but that's just me.

Guys I am not downplaying that the combination works and has worked on 2nd gen and so far on 3rd gens. I am just disclosing some additional facts so that a potential buyer can make an informed choice. The fact that I have posted it more then once is in response to other members stating that "it works fine, no worries. Go for it!" Well responses like that don't have a warranty and so I choose to make sure they are informed. What a member chooses to do after that is up to them. Could they easily be warrantied with a little deception and "white lie". I am sure they could. But what's wrong with that is self-evident.

And for the record Bilstein has approved installing Eibach springs on their 5100's. So all warranties are intact when going that route.

First, please forgive my non-mechanical background. I just want my Tacoma to look good, and am trying to figure out what to have done to it. I spoke with a fellow 2016 Tacoma owner, who had the dealership do a 3" lift in front and a 2" in back. He said the wheels were 17"s. It looked great, so I called that dealer to get a quote. I was told that to do that lift they also have to replace the front differential bearing, and that it would cost $1088. I then called Schwab and they said there was nothing on the books about changing the front differential bearing, and that it would cost $638 to do the lift. From what I'm reading here, there's a lot to this to do it right, but nothing about a front differential bearing.
Any advice on how to communicate what I want without getting hosed, voiding my factory warranty, or ending up with a bad ride, please?

Okay so I read through the entire thread :violent: So many options. Maybe I can get pointed in the right direction. I have a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 double cab. I want to do a 3" suspension lift and my budget it about $1700 including a UAC. I live in Florida so not a lot of trails and off roads, but I do drive some on occasion. Should I just stick with the Boss 2.0 kit? Only issue I have, is it comes with a 1.5 block for the rear. I would much rather go with an AAL for the rear from what I read. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just go with the OME kit. It seems to be shaping up to be the best budget option. IMO.

You can change out the kit options and get an AAL with the BOSS kit. For Florida and very little off road the BOSS kit will ride nice and look great.

You should do an online class! I just got OMEs with 887s and Dakar leaf pack and LR UCAs. I've never installed this stuff and have been pondering a solution. It sucks when you don't have a relationship with a shop you trust, because I don't want to let just anyone put their hands all over my baby :help:

Ok, I'm sorry for asking but what are OMEs, LR UCAs, 886s, 887s , AALs ?
I'm just a farm boy that quit wrenching when they quit puting carborators on them.
Truthfully I can do the work but all these acronyms are killing me.
