    I uploaded the .img file from my radio to the folder as well.

    DO NOT upload this .img to your radio.

    Two things you can do....
    1. Import the channels from this .img to your .img
    2. Open this .img along side your .img to flip back and forth and change the additional radio settings. If you do this, make sure you upload YOUR modified .img to your radio

    Some of the additional radio settings can be a bit cryptic and intimidating. I won't guarantee that my settings will be exactly what you want but I put some time and research into what they all mean and the settings are what I want (at least for now) so if you want a shortcut to get your radio going you can copy them.

    Yes.
    Here are two tidbits of information that will help with these...

    HF = 160M through 10M
    VHF = 6M through 1.25M
    UHF = above 1.25M

    (Less to remember this way...)

    Next....

    300 divided by Frequency in Mhz
    or
    300 divided by Band in Meters

    -----

    so... 53.2mhz is "HF, VHF or UHF?"
    -- 300 / 53.2 = 5.6 (round, and you see that's awful close to 6M) so... VHF

    or...

    Which band is 223.700mhz in?
    -- 300 / 223.7 = 1.34 (Round, and that's awful close to 1.2M) right? :)

    since the questions are all multiple choice... 300 divided by (whatever you know in Mhz or Meters) will get you VERY close.

    I see that Amazon has the BF-F9 now at $50 and the BF-F8HP is $63. Not finding much way to compare them other than the write-up for BF-F8HP saying that the F9 is crap (With "firmware" and weaker antenna).

    Anyone have some info or place that compares them?

    Edit: found this and still can't decide

    I have the F8HP... I think @teamhypoxia and @chenbro both have them too... so we (THEY) may be able to help trouble shoot if you got the same one. where there MAY be something that we (THEY) can't help with on the F9

    Good point, I went that way just because of the "better" manual and well, neither are that expensive.

    No. We have the $30 bf8+ maybe?
    I'd just get the cheapest boefeng available. I think they're all the same for all intents and purposes.

    :rofl::rofl:
    What is the world coming to that we're now going to debate the "authenticity" of cheap Chinese products?
    Don't you buy Chinese when you don't give a crap about authenticity you just want cheap?

    Maybe it's just me but the irony in that article was killing me :D

    Next it will be "are you sure that's a real 99 cent harbor freight screwdriver or is it just a knockoff? "

    Yes.
    The BF-F8+ V2 is what I sent @teamhypoxia and @chenbro for winning the W9ZEB Challenge.

    I also just ordered one for myself, which should be here before I leave for Colorado. Figure I'll use that, and let of of y'all program it for me when I get there. I'll leave the nice HTs behind in Texas.

    If I get really froggy, I'll figure out how to use my Surface Pro 3, and RTL-SDR to setup a portable APRS receiver for the truck on Windows 10.

    Just took my first practice test without any prior knowledge or studying... 23/35. Not bad but I would've done much worse without the general electrical questions that padded my score. I can only get better from here!

    Nope. There are two "t"s in Watt and you're limited to 1500 of them.

    Could you imagine the vehicle brown out when you keyed that up? Yikes.

    I have not had time to even think about reading up. So many diff builds, buying a truck at about the worst time, and all sorts of home stuff. I've tried reading up on some of the progress in here but fall behind.

    Yes.
    I've come VERY close to putting a 500w solid state linear in my truck. At full duty cycle they pull ~ 80a at 12v.

    Is that an Amplifier?

    Is there a point where more than dual battery would be needed?
