Yeah, I'm not optimistic. I'm in Norcal on the coast. Truck has been in salt air all of it's life ('07) but like I said it was in great condition in December, so I doubt it would've failed. Still a bonehead maneuver on my part :frusty:

I haven't heard of many, if any Cali trucks having issues with the frame. I'm sure they're out there, just don't ever read about any. Look around this thread, and Google, for pics of the main problem areas (mostly the inside vertical sections of the boxed sections (both sides) by the catalytic converters). The main problem seems to be salty/sandy road spray getting into the inside of the frame, and presumably not draining out fully. Causing the frames to rot out from the inside. If your not seeing much surface rust, and don't drive on salty roads on a regular basis, your probably GTG.

BTW, I just noticed your user name. Might have clued me into where you were from.

Ha no worries and yeah I haven't heard of any myself. I did check those areas when I inspected in December. I agree with you, should be GTG but being the cheap bastard that I am I hate to pass up an opportunity for a 'free' upgrade! Thanks for the replies.

I had the CRC coating applied to extend warranty for another 5 years but it hasn't helped.

Just wondering if anyone has gotten frame replacement done in the GTA area specifically by Burlington Toyota.

What are the minimal requirements to qualify ? ( 1 perforation of 10mm or bigger ).

The pic attached is from the driver side. Passenger side still hasn't perforated but the frame is definitely week in that spot.

That should do it. You should be getting a new frame now.

Count yourself lucky. For whatever reason, you guys up above us, have been getting an extended warranty when the CRC gets applied. If you lived in the US, you would have a pile of parts on your hands right now, as Toyota's US policy is one, and done. Once you get the CRC, Toyota cuts the cord. Anything further happens, your on your own. I wouldn't think most states would let that pass inspection. I know Mine wouldn't.

So I got my truck back with frame about a week ago, not happy with it due to some negligence/incompetence. Getting the minor issues fixed but having some larger ones and want to see if anyone else has had something similar. I have opened a case with Toyota.

Check engine light is on, dealer says it is the Charcoal Canister and it is not related to the frame even though it had to come off. Check engine light was not on when it went in. Came on after about 100 miles of having it back.

Dash lights do not work, dealer says not their problem they say it is the after market starter even though their tech's notes say different.

Bed is 1/2"-1" higher on the left side than the right. They said this is normal and happens on new trucks all the time.

I've had it with this dealer. Here are some of the smaller items.
    Fog lights were not reconnected.
    Fuse box obstructed by wiring
Interior fender was not fastened, I heard a grinding after about 2 miles. Had to secure with fishing line
Torn and missing covers in engine compartment
Vibrating that I didn't have before that they are blaming on the tires.

It's not uncommon to have some issues after major surgery like that, but that dealer sounds like they have some dogshit standards.

My truck when measured from center of hub to bottom of fender (now) is @ 22" front driver's, and passenger's, 24" rear driver's, and passenger's. My dealer (who has always done top notch work) originally had my front strut assemblies swapped (they are side specific, with colored paint markings to differentiate them), and that affected not only the front, but the rear measurements as well. I had a high side, and a low side, on both front, and rear.

Wow, that is appalling...I can't believe they won't admit to something that is obviously their fault. What did Toyota Corp say? That should be contacting the dealer to make them fix it, then again I'd be afraid to let them touch my truck again...

I'm terrified to let them touch it again but Toyota corporate told me it had to go back to them. So I dropped it off today, called about 2pm after no news. Never heard anything so called at 530 and then I get the news from them, too late to pick it up and no rental authorized. Left it there overnight so my Toyota Case Manager can call me back in the morning. They needed to order parts to fix their hack job anyway. It is beyond pitiful.

This is after the alternator went bad while it sat for 5 months and told me I need to replace it because they can't test drive it. I told them that sounds like it's your problem, let me know when it's done.

I was going to let them do shocks when they put it together. Wanted $900 for parts and the labor to press them. Took a pass on that.

Although my issues were not as extensive as yours, I feel your pain. After dealing with the service manager and her bs... It seemed as though the vibration issue had gone away. However, it came back. After taking all my wheels off, and inspecting everything, I found my passenger side rear brake drum to be out of round. Not sure why or how, but it's not round anymore. Thinking they gave it a good wack to get the drums off, or they heated it up, and they warped. Eitherway, the rear brakes didn't vibrate like that before. I've got new drums on order, just waiting for them to come in.

Also, noticed that the my grill lights don't work anymore.... must have cut a wire, or didn't re-connect them. Going to have to do some troubleshooting on that next weekend.

In the meantime, the truck drives pretty well....

Had an interesting weekend, been waiting 6 months for my chassis to be done and this past weekend the front right brake line busted and I have no brakes. Trying to see if this is enough to get it deemed unsafe and give me a rental until the chassis comes in or if I'm on my own here. Don't want to fix it to only have Toyota fix it in the recall.

Well ...... you can try but since the recall is for the frame I don't think so. The Brake lines are, IMO, a replaced part WITH the frame - not because they are the recall. I'd just put a temp splice in and refill / bleed the brake line before I'd drive it again.

have an '07 Taco that is now at dealership in Tucson for almost 3 months now...it failed the hammer whack test on passenger side near crossmember

just contacted both NHTSA & Toyota re no estimation on frame swap completion date...dealer does not understand why they are not given completion dates...am also worried about the

reconstruction of truck especially all the electrical connections...expecting a couple of problems...my truck spent first 6 years of life in Chicago area with all the salt and slush..how I come out

of this will determine whether I consider Toyota vehicles in future...good luck to all frame and leaf recall customers

they replace the metal brake lines, not the rubber fle
toyota cares should be able to give you a ballpark date on teh frame. all things considered, it's not that bad of process once they actually do it. it's the waiting and lack of communication that will drive you crazy.

My 07 has been at the dealer for 3+ months. I called at 2 months and was told it would be 3 months so I called again at 3 mo. and was told they don't have any idea when it will be done. So I called Toyota Corp. and was told the same thing...no idea when my frame will be done. How can they not know? The recall is over they should have some idea how many trucks are left to do and the time it is going to take to get the parts. So here I sit with a atv, boat, and trailer witch I am making payments on and paying insurance and no way to tow them and they have absolutely no idea when my truck will be done. I have been part of the "Toyota family" for 35 years. I'm done with Toyota after this.

So this recall is closed for the 2005 model year. I am considering buying a 2005, the guy never had the frame inspected, it's in Denver. Looks clean, 219k on the odo.

Do I just look it over real good?

Yup it's closed. Your taking a big gamble buying an '05 in the snow belt, but if your set on looking at it,
You can check this area of the frame:

So I look in those spots, what somewhat concerns me is that he says he never got a notice, and he knew nothing about the leaf springs. It looks like a clean truck, I hate to fly to Denver and find rust he doesn't know is there

Edit: He sent pics, one had the bad spot, it's a shame, it was a clean truck, with a crappy frame... I canceled my flight
