So last weekend I was doing so offroading and ended up getting high centered on my rear diff. I tried going forward and backward a couple times and when I put it in park, the shift to park made a pretty terrible sound. Eventually I got pulled out but when I put it back in 2wd the check engine light came on. Naturally I assumed this must be because of getting stuck in a big mud puddle. Any ideas what the problem might be?

No idea, but your vehicle knows the problem. Head over to your local AutoZone or similar shops where you can get the error code read for free. That's step 1, which will then determine subsequent steps.

Totally free. Just walk in and if the rep isn't helping someone else politely tell them you're truck threw an error code and ask to have it read. Have a pen/paper ready cause they don't provide a print out, write down all the details and there may be multiple codes.
