So I've had my 16 SR-5, AC, 4x4. 2.7 for about a month with 858 miles. After studying this forum from top to bottom and learning about that all too common issue regarding "fluid levels". I just went a checked my oil and was unpleasantly surprised to find oil just at the tip of the dip stick where it twists. There is no oil measurement anywhere near the fill marks on the dip stick. Not being a mechanical guy or having that knowledge, I'm freaking out thinking I'm could be f'n my new truck up. Now my driveway is at a very slight angle, but not enough I believe as to affect a dip stick reading. Also I haven't had any idiot light activations either. So first thing tomorrow morning I will take it down to Toyota to be checked. While I'm there any other important things I should have them check while I'm there ? I'm seriously developing concern with what else is lacking. Anyone feel like throwing their thoughts my way would be appreciated.

Even if it is a little low you should be ok. I've seen cars where a slight incline can not show in the dip stick. Depends on the pan design. Best to check while level. If it was too low you would of got a low pressure warning.

It was just shocking to see. I didn't expect it. I'll pull out into the street and let it sit for awhile and recheck. If it's the same or similar I'll still take it in. Thanks for responding, I appreciate it.

Most likely your engine is fine.... especially if you haven't seen the low oil pressure light pop on. If you haven't been seeing it on, your engine has been getting enough oil to lube the bearings. If you see the light on, you should immediately pull over and turn off the engine. Engines don't run very long at all without oil pressure.

BTW, I wouldn't completely attribute the low oil level to improper filling at the factory. It might be due to something else. You might look for an oil leak or maybe oil blow by on the rings (are the spark plugs oily?).

Just a quick question, did you check the oil after the truck was just running or had it been sitting for a while? Also that slight incline could give a false reading.

First off if you see ANY oil in the dipstick, just relax, chill, you’re fine.
Only about a little over a quart can fit, circulate, thru a typical engine gallery(s) at any given time. and the 3.5 L calls for 6.2 qt with tow pkg. The stick only shows around three.
That oil is then is cooled and returned to the oil sump waiting its turn to be picked up and circulated again by the oil pump pickup tube from the bottom of the pan/sump.
The sump is your engine’s life reserve. Keep it full!
It is for cooling and oil loss compensation thru burning or seepage, therefore keep it full, between marks, as per user service manual pg 452.
Check your oil with vehicle level at every tank full (HA!), and give it a few minutes to settle to the bottom after shutdown.
For the transmission, you’ll need to trust your dealer (rolling eyes) and that they are competent and willing to help you out.
If you have a 4X4 you need to make sure the U-joints are greased and purged. I would go to a trusted independent shop were you can see them and make sure they grease the one in rear of front shaft, as they need to remove 2 screws and cover for access. Most don’t do it. Nor do they like the mess and clean up the purging makes.
If you have the 4X2 you’re golden, no maintenance required.
Other than that, and everything else on the schedule maintenance you should be good to go.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

The "all too common issues regarding "fluid levels" have been specifically with V6 Transmissions, not 2.7 Engine oil levels.

Stop freaking out, you'll be just fine. If you're concerned about the engine oil being low take it in or top it off yourself with the recommended oil. Very simple process.

    Jesus Christ.

Guy says he thinks his oil is low and it doesn't even go a full page before someone suggests his rings are shot.

    Glad all is OK, dude.
