If you are talking about the switchbacks, they had turned to shit the last time we were there a year or 2 ago. We had to roll logs into the ruts between the 2nd and 3rd switchback. They were probably 2 ft deep ruts. Other then that trail, I never knew of a detour.

So what time are people willing to arrive. I am looking at being there as early as 8am.

Detour wasn't too shabby this past Christmas! I made It through with just a leveling kit at the time. They must have cleaned it up some

Well alrighty then. Does everyone that is going have comm's? As in a ham radio or a mobile unit that can transmit on 2m like the GrMS channels? I have a spare if we are only short one for the trip

No CB or anything for me, I keep saying I'm going to get one.

8 is a bit early for me. Would it be possible to meet you guys on the trail with no CB?

There is no cell service there, but if you text one of us when you hit montevallo, there is a good chance that it will go through depending on the area that we are in. Then we could meet you at the entrance.

I believe we were talking 8:30.

Why don't we find a spot not too far from the Slab like a McDonald's in Birmingham to officially link up?

Hopefully not muddying waters but, if we decide to meet someplace, then head to the trail. Is that place gonna be somewhere I could leave my towing truck and tow dolly? Like a larger parking lot maybe. Only concern is leaving the truck and dolly where it'd get tow'd.

More than likely, yeah. I wouldn't have reservations parking there (cameras, RV parking is more than allowed so it's not really a nuisance).

We always meet at the McDonald's in Montevallo. There is a big lot behind it where we got together and grab some breakfast before we go.

You can leave your tow rig at the beginning of the slab. Lots of people do it. I've done it too. Never had any problems.

Put me as a maybe. We'll be going out of town the following week so I'm not sure what things will need to be done to prepare for our vacation. Maybe we can get away on Saturday and spend it with y'all.
