I don't know why that's so hard to believe, that's ~$500 over invoice which is pretty much normal with most of the Costco affiliated dealers around me. I went with one that did $750 over (IIRC, it's been six months after all) because of proximity, willingness to submit allocation request, and the standing offer they gave me on my trade.

Thanks, man! I installed a centerforce in my CJ5 years ago, and it still is a great clutch. Sadly, it's in front of a shitty T14 tranny, but that pile of shit will be gone someday.

Are you running one yourself, @RedBeard1? If so, what do you like about yours? I'm still a bit of a mechanical novice, but I believe the MC clutch has about 300# more pressure plate force, which would seem to be a good thing with a crawl box acting as a torque multiplier. Anyway, I'd love to hear what you think. Thanks again!

I have run both the 1200# (as daily driver) and now the 1600# (dedicated crawler). Both clutches in the same truck.

The 1200 was pulled and sold when I retired the truck from daily driving had 100k miles on it and was still plenty good. It has been in the truck of the guy I sold it to for about 5 years now and still going strong.

The 1600# is a straight beast... zero I mean 0.0000 slip in that clutch. However the drivability is not any different than the 1200#. Just nice positive and crisp application. Love the Marlin clutches they are a million% better than a center force. Which I have also run in the same truck. Only other choice I would run after the Marlin clutch is the 1100# RAM clutch but I am not sure you can even get them any more.

All of these clutches were behind a 22re with either a W56C or a R151F/R452/R150F hybrid behind it.

My16 M/T OR should be here in 4 to 6 weeks. It will probably shift funny because I haven't driven a stick shift since my last Tacoma. That was three years ago.:cookiemonster::burnrubber:

Great info, man! This truck isn't a DD, but it isn't going to be a dedicated crawler either. More of a jack-of-all-trades, wannabe expo rig, so I'd like to keep the road manners as drivable as possible, while getting the benefit of better holding power. How was the pedal feel on the 1200# while you had it? Any more or less effort to disengage the clutch?

I think I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on the 1200# MC clutch while I'm under the truck to install the crawl box and just call it good!

    Haha!

I'm doing it, for sure. There's a regear in the works right after my crawl box, and a new carrier bearing when they do my driveshafts. Throw in a new clutch, and that's damn near a fresh drivetrain!

    Thanks for your input, Red!

This is my first manual transmission so please excuse me if this is a basic concept.

I can not seem to get off the line quickly at a stop light (smooth being key). I have had several drivers get noticeably frustrated. It seems like getting a quick smooth shift from 1st to second is hard. If I shift low in first, I'm turtling. If I rev high in first 3.5k rpm or so, I end up with what seems to be a ridiculously long rev hang and I have to hold the clutch in for a while to get it to drop. Otherwise I'm at way too high of RPMs for 2nd. I can only assume I am doing something wrong since the manuals are showing to be quicker than the automatics by experienced drivers.

So does anyone have tips for getting quick off the line (I don't need to drag race), just quick and smooth transition from 1st to 2nd. 2nd to 3rd and up seem to be a bit easier.

But on that note, I wouldn't give up the manual transmission for anything. So much fun and I did some off roading this weekend. 1st gear, 4-lo, just beautiful.

I'm not being critical, but it sounds like you're forgetting to back off of the accelerator while shifting and the engine and transmission speeds aren't matching up because the engine is still revving. Again, not being critical, but you have to let off the gas when you depress the clutch in almost every scenario.

Don't worry about being quick off the line. That will come with time. Also, don't worry about other drivers getting frustrated. That's their problem. Once you get a lot more practice it'll become second nature and much more smooth.

Nah, there's a rev hang. To be honest, even with a speed shifter these trucks do not like to shift quickly, its just the nature of the beast. You want a quick shifting power car, go get a sports car. Even with my hurst shifter, there are times when I just have to slow it down for a second and let the revs drop or I'm gonna be eating up my clutch.

I think it its the tranny and not necessarily truck vs sports car.

My Elise & Exige hate to be hurried on a shift, yet my S2000 or previous miatas loved to be shifted quickly.

Yeah my Uncle In law let me drive his S2000 and it was a blast. Going back to my Taco was pretty crappy for a minute lol. And yeah, truck/tranny, its not a sports car and not designed for super fast shifting. If you drive the thing like you're afraid to shift it, it shifts awesomely all day long

Try not pushing the clutch but about 1/3 of the way in on shifts. Worked on my Cummins and works on the Tacoma. Poking around or speed shifting it is smooth as butter doing that.

No problems here, I'm talking about stock lol. Stage 3 clutch and speed shifter makes shifting a heck of a lot faster these days lol :D
