Can you feel any scarring on the end of those rotors or are they smooth?

 

Not entirely smooth . Feel the same as inside the sc

 

My s/c makes the same sound but only at idle. I've read it's supposed to make that noise because the gears aren't under load at idle. Moot point since you're probably already done with the rebuild.

You might have a leak somewhere. Not really sure how to check it but there's a thread on CT made by TexasAces detailing himself hunting down little leaks all over and picking up .5 psi at each. I think his biggest leak was at the bypass valve but he also had a grey unit so not sure if that issue is commutative. Also had an ongoing belt slip issue.

Hope you figure it out man! It's looking more and more like I'm in the same boat so might have to start a rebuild myself.

 

I have a parts SC in my garage and I have no vertical movement when pulling the rotors, I would think just pressing the gears on a bit tighter and removing that slop will help out a ton. Otherwise you can send it in, rebuild yourself, have someone else knowledgeable or buy one of the prebuilt SC rotor packs from ebay.

Would I just put the rotors up right and put a socket over the gear and hit it with a hammer?? Then won't it contact the rotor plate ?

 

Haha it's a 1st gen and the rotors and gears are damaged.

I wouldn't hammer them, might cause some damage. A press is much safer and better option.

Bring it to any shop and they should be able to press them no problem. Can you get me another video of you pulling on the gears and the movement between the rotors and plate? Figure all of this info is good to have in this thread anyways for any future reference.

Just an FYI, I have the Harbor Freight 20 ton press and love it, used it for a ton of projects already and only $150. The 12 ton would work as well, but I like having the extra tons so you don't have to stress the machine at all.

 

I'm moving to a apartment in a few weeks so no use for a one but might just buy one anyways lol... I'll get the video tonight. Was hard to do with two hands haha

 

I don't alder however could get vertical play. Only thing I can see is that it isn't pressed together all the way

When you press out the nose cone shaft. How do you start? From pulley side down? Won't both bearings be inside the housing then? If so then how do you press them out.

I'm no expert but that looks pretty normal to me. Why would you want there to be contact between the rotors and plate?

 

In gonna try to press the. Together to see if the gear isn't pressed on all the way

 

I wouldn't press it very much at all, just going based off the couple I've rebuilt and the parts one in my garage. You can always contact one of the rebuilding companies and show them the video. Might be worth it before potentially causing any damage.
