I installed the BakFlip tonneau cover which required removing the bulkhead rail as well. You would need to do that before installing the LED strips since all three sections are connected with wires. You might be able to do it by removing all screws on the rail except the center and just pivoting one side up at the time, but the rail was easier to handle just removing it completely, so I'd plan to do that first before installing the LEDs.

Like Filbert said, install the gasket and then the light kit.

The switch can be installed in the upper location (old picture).

Does anyone have a picture of where they mounted the ground screw? Did you have to drill a hole before screwing it in? The picture in the instructions looks nothing like what is under my truck near that switch...

Hey Matt! where do these mount on the bulkhead for 2016s without the front bedrails? also how does this integrate with a backflip installed?

The 3rd gen does have an aluminum square tube where the bed tie down rail would be.

Why not wire this to the stock bed light wires?

You can wire them to the OEM cargo lights through the use of a relay. That install is not recommended for an electrical newbie though.

Why you need a extra relay? arent the cargo lights already on a relay?

No. The OEM cargo light wiring is rated for the wattage that the OEM cargo lights use. Wiring more lights to it without a relay could cause the oem wiring to burn up and or worse.

I do not recommend wiring my light kits to the OEM wiring, if you do so its at your own risk. If done correctly using a relay, it can be done with no harm but I am not responsible.

Actually, matt, I think that they (existing lights) may use a relay, however, I do believe it would be too difficult to try to tap into said relay (esp. as its location is unknown to most people, including me). It is the reason I decided to wire mine seperately, as you recommended

Snipped and stripped all connections, reconnected with some leftover crimp caps I had from an old stereo install, plugged the fuse back in and woah! The Warm white lights look freakin awesome in the back with a softopper. I'll post some pics tonight if I remember to take them

Fairly easy install. 1) Stick LED's under rail 2) all connections are done on passenger side 3) drill 5/32 hole at end of rail-passenger side 4) drill 3/8 hole for switch 5) connect one wire from switch to ground, other wire to battery. 6) run wire to battery while under vehicle--takes longest 7) connect with supplied fuse to battery.
Sometimes you use 2 zipties to secure wire-especially under hood. Self tapping ground goes into metal supporting rear bumper.
Best part-wired directly to the battery--turns on whenever you want. LED is minimal drain on battery.
    Thanks Matt
