I purchased a Snugtop Sport Highliner. Big mistake. I had the oversized windows installed. The holes were cut incorrectly and the windows didn't fit. The passenger side window was forced into place and bent in the process which resulted in a large leak. It was raining on the way home and the inside was soaking wet when I got home. The dealer replaced the window at no cost but the new window wouldn't fit because the hole was still too small not mention the chunk that was missing at the bottom. When they cut the hole they took a large piece out that was only half covered by the seal. Snugtop wants the unit sent back for repair. I don't want a repaired unit I paid for a new unit. My other other concern is the rest of the windows. if they cut one hole wrong how do I know the others are correct. From what I can tell their quality and craftsmanship is very poor. I would not never purchase or recommend a Snugtop to anyone.

wow, thats a huge bummer. So sorry to hear of your issue. what a time waste. Indeed that is ridiculous. But problem is that all the manuf seem to occasionally have manuf defects like this. it comes down to your sales rep and how well he treats you. For sure, you should get a new unit

Wow, interesting. I dont care what anyone says, the mark up on these is huge. Someone is making a killing. No way on earth are these things really worth $3K, but that is how far they have driven up the market. Folks really have no choice but to pay. I looked at purchasing somewhere else but the shipping killed the deal.

No experience with Snug Top but I have found the quality of both Leer and ARE to be less than expected for the price paid. While the dealers have been great fixing the problems it's a pain in the ass to have to make trips back to get the defects corrected.

yes, it is a huge PIA. Sad that the dealers have to deal with these companies. Obviously from all the comments the companies dont give a crap in the end. My wife called to complain and commented the person that answered was one of the rudest people she had ever talked to regarding customer service. But the stock holders and upper management for those companies are laughing all the way to the bank. Do you think the workers there are stoked that end up leaving sharp edges, obvious poor craftsmanship and know the mark up must be huge. Its all fairly typical though these days with quality versus cost on items that are high demand and specific. But for the most part it does not seem like every buyer has serious issues or even some buyers don not have any issues. I think it has been said many times here that the key is a good distributor/dealer that will stand behind their cutomers. As far as companies go, no one is super impressed with any of these.

just met a guy today at kids soccer practice... has a 2016 snugtop. He had water intrusion issues with the factory installed Yakama rack. He had to have the dealer remove the rack and put it back on ... this time with silicone. How utterly ridiculous that Snug Top can not be bothered to put these on properly at the factory. I bet i could train my 5 year old on how to do this. Really, you'd think this was the first rack they had ever put on. Personally I would use roofing/flashing polyurethane instead of silicon, but either way apparently snug top used nothing at all. Quite pitiful really.

Just ordered the Yakima Q clip for the tower from my old truck to put a bar on the cab. Have new towers for shell and two old bars.

I did not get the 12v light - at the dealer suggestion that it can be left on easily by accident and leaving me stranded somewhere. Instead they installed a battery-operated interior LED that is bright and looks and works pretty much the same as a 12v - and without the wires that run across the interior. A much cleaner look. I will probably add a couple stick-on LED push lights that you find at Big Lots to the front quarters of the bed.[/QUOTE]

Ha! When I bought my '02 Tacoma brand new, the local SnugTop dealer cautioned against the hard wired 12 volt light. Same thing, 'It can get left on, blah blah.' I think it was just because they didn't want to take the extra time to run the wire off the battery. I HATED that AA battery light. It was way too dim, and the AA batteries wouldn't last very long at all. I'm in the market for another shell for my recently purchased 2011 V6 PreRunner AC and I'm going to Insist on the hard wired 12 volt light.

The only thing I haven't decided is what to do about the front window. My first SnugTop (cab high on a '73 Datsun 1600 pu) had the solid front window, and it got dirty and was impossible to clean. My last SnugTop ('02 Extra Vision) had the front boot, which has handy with the rear slider on the truck but rubbed the paint off the back of the cab over time. Just not sure that I want to spring for the fold down front window. The top mounted rack attachments are more important.

2016 Tacoma Sport, just getting started in on it.
    Hi all,

Has any one wired the third brake light on their cap themselves? If so how did you go about doing it?

    Thanks
